SO LET'S SET THE WORLD ON FIRE, WE CAN BURN BRIGHTER, THAN THE SUN . . . The Words: 361 The Outfit: HERE The Notes <3 Being a mother just wouldn’t be so bad if she wasn’t a single mother. Now, Cerian had been a great help, and he did all he could for the little girl. But he wasn’t her father. James would have been a great father, Sydney was sure of it. When she’d told him that she was pregnant, he’d been excited. Scared out of his wits, naturally, but excited. They were in love, or… well, as in love as two seventeen year olds could be. He didn’t think about backing out, didn’t think about breaking up with Sydney. Instead, they’d stayed up late, lying on the roof of his house, talking about baby names. They’d liked Stella Marie for a girl and Jasper James for a boy. It was unclear whether or not the child would be St. Claire or Van Buren, and marriage was in the talks. But honestly, Syd wasn’t ready to marry James. Sure she loved him, but was she ready to be tied down to one man for the rest of her life? No. James had encouraged her and held her hand when she’d told her parents. But she didn’t have him, Syd was more or less alone in this. She couldn’t be the good guy, because she had to discipline Stella and be the bad guy.
Sydney was caught up talking to her daughter and she didn’t hear Cerian come outside. ”You can’t not keep behaving like this in public. I expect more -,” she looked up at Cerian and sighed, pausing a moment before standing from where she was squatting to be eye level with her daughter. Giving one more look to Stella, Sydney went back inside and to the table. Sitting down, the blonde bounced her knee anxiously, waiting for the pair to return to the table. Sydney wanted to take Stella out with her and Cerian, wanted to include her daughter in the relationship, but it was so hard on nights like this. Sydney found herself missing the days when Stella was a baby. She where Sydney could just hold her and look down at her calm face, muscles relaxed. Things were easier back then.

. tell the world i'm coming home . There were often times when Cerian wondered where Stella's father was. Why he wasn't around to be there for Syd even if they weren't together. Out of respect he'd just never asked, though, figuring that if his girlfriend wanted to tell him about Stella's father that she would do it on her own time. He wasn't really dying to know or anything like that so for as long as she wanted to keep from telling him he would be understanding, figuring that she had her reasons for not bringing the man up. All that really mattered to Cerian was that he wasn't around, and she needed help when it came to that daughter of his. Help that he was more than willing to give to her. Especially during times like these where he saw the tired expression on her features.
Cerian pulled Syd to his side and pressed a kiss to her temple before he crouched down to where his girl had been positioned just a moment ago. Those hazel eyes of his locked on the little girl's. After a few moments of talking to her he pulled her in for a hug and kissed her forehead then took her hand leading her back into the restaurant. Stella took her seat across from them and looked at her mother with big eyes giving her an apology. Cerian himself took his seat back by Sydney, a small smile on his lips. As far as he could see they were going to have a good meal the rest of the time.
"Did you figure out what you wanted sweetheart? Stella decided that she wanted mac n cheese with fruit." Which was really what the whole problem had been about in the first place. Of course he understood why Stella wanted to act like a big girl and get to order off of the big girl menu. And really, had he stepped in a moment earlier it might've been avoided. It was all past now, and if he could just get Sydney to chill out and relax all over again he was sure that the rest of the night was going to be great. Just a good night with his girls that he adored.
His own hazels moved to look at the menu trying to figure out what he himself wanted. And after a couple moments he decided what it was. He couldn't help but feel how even with the little interruption, it was nice to have outings like this. Where it was the three of them. Even if it caused a part of his heart to long for children of his own. No matter how much he loved Stella, she wasn't his daughter, but hell she was the closest thing he had to one thus far. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- .
