Gwen was in need of an adventure. It'd been far too long since she had done something that most people would deem as some kind of dangerous and insane. She was dying to just do something that would be some kind of fun that she hadn't had in a while. The problem with wanting to go out and do something like she wanted to do was that it was so much better when you had someone to go on one of those crazy adventures with you. As she sat in her apartment spinning in her chair she had to think about who it was that would go with her. Sure, she had met a couple friends since moving to New Haven, but that didn't mean that she knew just who it was that she wanted to take. Or who would even be willing. Then it came to her. Lucas. He had that gleam in his eye, she'd noticed it during the times that they had hung out together. Nothing quite as exciting as going on an adventure to places unknown, but there was most certainly a part of him that longed for what she did as well. People of the same disposition were able to see it in one another, and she could see it in Luke's eyes whens he stared into them. Something she enjoyed doing more than even she liked to admit. He would be willing to go with her, she just knew it. She knew that they would have a great time with it too. Probably a better time than if she was just to go find someone on the streets to take with her. So the decision was easily made. She was going to get dressed in proper attire, grab a few things that were necessary when you were going out into the wilderness, and then she was going to drive over to Luke's place and pick him up. There was no thought to call him and see if he was going to be willing first. Of course there was always the chance that he wouldn't wake up -given that it was nearing two in the morning- or that he wouldn't feel up to it, but she had a feeling that he would go. All that she had to do was get herself ready and then head over to his place then it'd just be a matter of maybe buying him a cup of coffee before she dragged him into her car. Gwen pulled on a pair of jeans and a sweater before pulling her curls back into a ponytail. As was normal for the woman there wasn't any makeup on her face. She really wasn't the sort of girly girl that she knew her mother had hoped she would turn out as, but she was a natural sort of beauty. Or so that was what she had been told more than once in her life. Enough times so that she believed it at this point. The woman drove a bit faster than she should've going to his home and then parked. It was a half jog to his door and then she was knocking on it none too quietly. She was excited, to say the least, though part of her had a feeling that half of her excitement was simply coming from the idea of having Luke come with her. It'd been a long time since she'd had someone that she could drag along with her on these sort of things, even longer since it'd become a regular sort of thing. The smile on her face stayed wide as she waited, almost impatiently ready to knock again if he didn't arrive within the next minute.

don't know what you need ,
lucas was a light sleeper - something he supposed was very good indeed because when it came right down to it, flynn was not, so if something were to happen in the middle of the night, it would be up to him to make sure that everyone got out of the house safely. however, in that, it also sucked because when things did happen in the middle of the night like, say, some lunatic pounding on their door at two or three in the morning, it woke him up from a rather enjoyable sleep and made him lie there grumbling for a moment because though he was tired and wanted to just roll over and tell these midnight girl scouts or whoever the hell these night times visitors were that he'd buy their thin mints when the sun was out, he was a little intrigued that he was getting visitors at three in the morning pounding so insistently on his door in the first place. and it was that, ultimately, that got him to get his ass out of bed.
because luke couldn't turn away from a mystery like that if he tried; he'd be tossing and turning for the rest of the night if he even so much as dared because it just wasn't in his nature to ignore the unknown. his sister liked to tell him that it was part of what made him so stupid and reckless, but he honestly didn't find himself either of those. he just had a taste for adventuring and figuring out things that he didn't know: if that meant sometimes he seemed a little reckless, careless, thoughtless, spontaneous, crazy...well then that was what it meant but he would never admit to being any of those things. he was just curious and felt that he deserved the right to satisfy his curiosities. it was the way he had always been and even if he had been warned a hundred times by his sister about the dangers of opening the door for strangers in america in the middle of the night, he felt that even if it was some weird person who knocked before trying to kill him, he'd welcome the fight. at least it'd be something interesting to tell people later.
so he rolled out of bed and found some pants to pull on so he wasn't just wandering out to greet a potential stranger in a stained shirt and his boxers. not that he minded much - hell, he'd greet the damn person naked - but connecticut had colder winter nights than he liked to admit and it was probably wise to get more clothing on him than he was wearing to bed if he was going to be opening the door. so it was on with his jeans as he yawned to himself and mumbled, "yeah, yeah, i'm coming," so quietly that it was a bit useless to say. but it helped to wake him up before long and soon he was trudging into the front room to open the door before they knocked loud enough to actually wake flynn and his daughter up, something that at three in the morning or whatever time it was, was not necessarily encouraged. he ran his fingers through his hair as he unlocked and then opened their door, and his eyes widened slightly in surprise before a grin spread onto his features when he saw gwen standing there, looking beautiful as ever. at two in the morning.
not that he minded; he liked gwen and when she was around him, it usually meant that something interesting was going to happen. she had the same spirit of adventure that he himself also possessed and being with her was never boring. and her showing up this early (or late, depending on how they were looking at it) could only mean one thing. it meant that things were about to get a hell of a lot more interesting really, really quickly. "mornin', sunshine," he said with a small chuckle and another yawn, opening his door a little bit wider now that he knew he was (probably) not going to end up stabbed or shot or something. "or whatever. i'm not sure what's the right one to say in this case." he knit his brow for a second as he considered it before shrugging. "anyway, chick, what can i do ya for? any reason you're here or did you just miss my pretty face?" he emphasized this with another smile, leaning against the door as he waited for her explanation.

In all truth of the matter Gwen hadn't even looked at the clock before she'd decided to pack up and head over to Luke's house. She didn't think about the fact that he had a roommate or there was a child in the house, even though she knew that she should've. Usually she wasn't this thoughtless or inconsiderate, but she was excited. She was especially excited to be dragging Lucas on one of these late night adventures because he was the first person that she'd met in the states that was like her. He'd lived a life filled with just as much amazing sights as she had. He knew the need to go out into the world and explore everything that it had to offer. So Gwen hadn't bothered to look at the time or even think about anything else but getting Lucas out of bed and dragging him out of his house. The woman stood there on his door step feeling all kinds of excited shifting her weight from one foot to another. She was about to knock again when he opened the door though and a wide grin spread on her features. Her eyes took in his appearance and her grin faltered and a brow rose. "Oh, no, that will not do," she stated with a shake of her head. As if he should've known that she was coming over to kidnap him to go out into the great unknown. Sometimes, she really did have a problem with assuming that everyone knew what was going through her head at all points in time. Just like right then she assumed that Lucas would've gotten some kind of spidey sense that would leave him all ready to go when she arrived at his doorstep. Which, was obviously not how things were playing out. "It's mornin' just so ya know," she spoke that Irish accent of hers a bit thicker than normal. And she moved past him into the house. "And we're going on an adventure and yer so sorrily dressed for it I 'ave 'alf a mind to slap some sense inta ya," she spoke in teasing tones and then moved to kiss his cheek. Signs of affection really weren't all that strange of a thing for the Ireland native. She was a touchy sort of woman, and a lot of people mistook that as her coming onto them, which, might've been the case when it came to Lucas, but more times than not, it wasn't the truth of a situation. Gwen liked to thing that it was her personality that made her such a good bartender. A woman that everyone could enjoy being around because she smiled a lot, and she called everyone by pet names, and she could always get a laugh or two out of someone. Without another word she started heading towards his room. She stopped half way there and looked back at him with that playful smile on her lips. "Well c'mon. Gotta get cha ready, ya know. Unless ya wanna freeze er get hurt ya dumb bastard," she then winked at him before slipping into his room and shamelessly going through her clothes to find him something to wear. After a couple moments she tossed a sweater and a blazer onto the bed, as well as a different pair of jeans, a belt, and some socks. With the outfit all well and picked for him she plopped down on the bed and waited for him to come into the room. "Yer burnin daylight Lucas," she called to him, bouncing on his bed slightly.

don't know what you need ,
ah gwen. his love for his friend just wouldn't be the same if she didn't invade his privacy at three in the morning. honestly it was the mark of a good person that they come and barge into his house at some point or another and he was beginning to get the feeling that if someone he was friends with didn't do this at one point in the course of their friendship, they didn't stay friends for very long. he knew flynn used to do it, hell, icarus used to barge straight into his bedroom to wake him up for breakfast. in another town. that they had to drive hours to get to. so he couldn't really complain at gwen's forwardness but instead just embrace it since he didn't see what fun life was without people like her. his only concern is that he really wished that she'd keep her voice down for the kid's sake, but even then it wasn't hard to get the little girl to go out like a light so he couldn't say much to her. instead he just shook his head and followed her back to his room. because hell - apparently they were going on an adventure.
a lot of people thought that lucas had a problem. that he just gave into his friends too easily and was a pushover because he'd rather drive around with them doing random bullshit than sleep. however, this couldn't be farther from the truth. though luke admittedly did like being out at three in the morning in comparison to sleeping, it was by no means because the guy was a pushover. because he wasn't, and that was a mark of the taylor family - not a single person in it just rolled over and did something because someone else wanted them to. the truth of the matter was, luke really did want to go on an adventure. he was always ready to do something and thought of sleep as nothing more than time wasted. if he could invent a way for his body to run perfectly well without sleep, he'd sell his bed and never even so much as blink ever again.
so he wasn't being a pushover for gwen and pitied the day that he ever would become one. he would admit to being a sucker for a pretty face and a girl with spirit and spunk, things that described his friend perfectly, but he was in no means going to bend over backwards to attempt to make her like him. he was lucas taylor, take him or leave him, which apparently in the state he was dressed in, gwen was going to leave him. not that he blamed her. honestly he couldn't dress himself to save his life, save for the fact that he was going to wear whatever was necessary to keep him warm. had he known they were going on an adventure, he would have at least put on a clean shirt maybe some clean jeans and of course a jacket. those connecticut nights, man. they killed him.
so he followed her back into his room, making sure that his front door was locked again first so that more crazy irish people didn't come bursting into his house. when he got back there, though, he noticed with a lazy sort of grin that she already had another outfit picked out for him, belt, socks, and all. that girl - she was going to be the death of him. he laughed as he took in the outfit before reaching for the shirt she'd picked out for him. "i love ya," he told her, "honestly, truly, deeply - but i'm not leaving the room for this, mate, so either enjoy the show or look away." he gave her a quick wink before taking off his shirt and changing into the sweater she had picked out for him. as he reached for the jeans and unbuckled his own, he asked, "so where are we going on this adventure anyway, gwenny?" he let his pants fall before stepping out of them and pulling on the new ones, buttoning and zipping them up before securing them with the belt. he sat down on the bed. "i'm guessing not any place warm judging on all this." he then pulled on his socks as he looked over at her, curiosity etched into his features. he couldn't fight it. so he might as well just go along.

Gwen was a wild thing and anyone who had known her even for five minutes could tell that much about here. Everything about her screamed of her being a creature that wasn't going to be tamed anytime soon, and even if she were to be tamed, it wouldn't be for long. She supposed that was why she had never really held down a boyfriend. Not that she'd done much in the realm of trying either, but, boyfriends never did seem to like to keep up with her. Of course, at first they tried. They would go on these late night adventures with her, and they would do what they could to keep up. Most of them, though, ended up tiring of the life that she loved so very much. In all reality, it wasn't much skin off of Gwen's back. She wasn't one of those women who said that she preferred being single, because, well, every girl liked to have someone to cuddle up to when the night was over. But she wasn't about to just settle for someone because she didn't want to be alone. If she was going to end up with someone for the rest of her life, it was going to be someone that she knew wouldn't be holding her back. It was going to be someone with the same sense of adventure. Someone who would love her for all of her strange ways and think nothing of it. Sometimes, she just wasn't sure if that someone was out, there, but she also wasn't wasting much of her time looking for some man either. There wasn't much reason for it really, not when she had friends that she could drag along with her wherever her little heart desired. Friends like Lucas. Who really was, the best friend that she'd made since moving to the states. They really were similar creatures, both of them longing for so much more than just a nine to five and a typical job. If there were one person that she cold spend an unlimited amount of time with, it was Luke. Sometimes it seemed strange to her that the person she would end up being so close to wouldn't be an American at all, but instead an Australian, which was fine enough. In Gwen's own personal opinion his accent was so much cuter than an American accent. Sometimes she just wanted to pinch his damn cheeks. Even if he was moving at the pace of a turtle to get his ass up to the room to get ready. She swore, one of these days she was going to light a fire under his ass just to get him moving faster. There was no need for him to act like he had been sleeping or something like that. Or well, sure, he had probably just been sleeping, but Gwen herself almost always bounced out of bed ready for the day so she could only assume that everyone else could be that way. Even if it ended up making an ass of her. The smile that was set on her lips stayed wide when he did speak. "Puttin on a show for me eh? I'm startin to get the feelin' that you might 'ave a crush on me Lukey," she spoke in teasing tones. And she knew, that she probably should've turned her gaze away. She shouldn't have let those light eyes of hers roam over his bare torso with her head tilted to the side to get a better view of him. But, she did. Because in a lot of ways Gwen was still very much like a teen who took every chance she got to see an attractive man without his shirt on. "I'm not sure yet," she answered with a bit of a shrug before walking around the room and looking at his things. Smiling a bit when she'd found a picture of him and his daughter. "I figured that we'd just hop in the car, see where the road takes us, and then see where our feet lead us," she answered simply before turning her attention back to him. "Are ya ready to go or are we gunna 'afta stop and get you somethin' to wake you up a bit?" she asked smiling a bit as she teased him with a playful wink.

don't know what you need ,
luke didn't have much that could embarrass him. some might find it strange that he was willing to so quickly just drop his clothes and don new ones in front of a friend he was just making, but honestly? gwen was an adult. and he was an adult. and adults were fully capable of getting undressed in front of one another without it being embarrassing. luke was married for christ's sake; he had a child. it wasn't like seeing somebody without their clothes on was something surprising or shocking and he was more than certain that gwen had found someone in her life she'd been willing to see less than clothed on many occasions. the fact of the matter was that if she was embarrassed, she would look away and if she wasn't, she would stare and he wasn't going to complain. he was comfortable in his own skin. if other people wanted to appreciate that, then he'd let them. besides, it wasn't like he was stripping naked. he was just changing his clothes.
and even in that, let gwen see him. the more comfortable she got with him, the happier he would be. because he liked her. he thought she was charming and funny and attractive and after meeting her would admit to having less than a pure thought before but hey, he was only male and though his divorce wasn't so long ago, he had honestly been out of a relationship for a lot longer than he'd been out of a marriage. he found no shame in his attraction to her and when she joked about him having a crush on her, he just gave her another wink. why not? he was free to do so now and gwen was an amazing woman. if he wanted to show off a little bit, then he was completely at liberty to do so, no judgment. and that was why he was so quick to just forget about shame and change like he did it in front of her every day. what was there to be ashamed of?
he down on the bed to pull on his socks and a nearby pair of shoes as she walked around his room, and he smiled sadly to himself when she reached the picture of him and his daughter. he missed rose. he missed rose more than he knew it was possible to miss another human being, and he wished more than anything to go back to australia and just....try and work things out with her mom just so he could have her every now and then. but people were so iffy about taking children away from their mothers, and thim was a good mom. it wouldn't feel right to fly little rosemary across the world all the time just so he could be with her. no she deserved to stay in australia. but fuck if that meant he didn't miss her with every fiber of his being. if he had one regret it would be leaving her behind. he wasn't sure what he was doing without her.
evidently going on adventures with gwen. he finished tying his shoes and pulled on the blazer that his friend had picked out for him. "we'll probably need to drop by and pick up some coffee," he admitted. normally, he would have just been ready to go but under ideal circumstances, he would have known that they were going to be doing this and thus would have had time to work it out in his sleep schedule. as it were, he was instead woken up in the middle of the night and when luke was disturbed when he would rather be sleeping, it took something more powerful than a happy demeanor, a pretty face, and some cold weather to snap him out of it. "but i could go without the stuff, too, i'll just be a little longer in waking up." he adjusted the blazer a bit before giving his friend a smile. "shall we, then?"

Being with Luke, and around Luke was simple. She supposed that was why she liked hanging around him so much. There wasn't complications like people put into things. And really, they both looked at things through the same colored glasses, which mean that they saw each other at an eye to eye level. Had the roles been reversed and it had been her that needed to get changed she would've done it in front of him without much of a second thought. And just as he had given her full rights to an open show, she would've done the same. Because, things like nudity didn't need to be taken so seriously all the time. Seemed that Luke felt the same way about it. Not that there wasn't a bit of flirting between the two. As could be shown by the wink. It was amazing how much there was to find out about a person when you met them. There were so many secrets, so many hidden things that she never would've thought were possible to be in one person. But people were very much so adventures, as much as going out to god knows where in the middle of the night. Gwen thought that Luke was an adventure that was more that worth her time to get to know. To figure out those sides of him that he didn't often show to people just to say that she knew them. That she had found them. That she had realized things about him that no one had taken the time to before. She supposed that there was a part of her that was interested in more than friendship with the Australian man, but Gwen had never been the sort to put too much weight into crushes or possible relationships. A smile pulled her lips as she watched him get the rest of the way ready and she could feel a bit of a bounce in her step as she wandered around the room. Much like a child who was excited for a family trip, or something like that. And when it came to these late night adventures Gwen supposed that she was very much like a kid. A girl with wide eyed wonder and a thrill for life that most people lost by the time that they hit adulthood. She hadn't though, she was far more interested with living life until the end of her days as if she was still a little girl running through the fields back home. "Alright, I spose that we can get ya come coffee. But only cuz you put on a nice lil show an' I dunt realleh feel all the right not givin' ya some kinda tip," she spoke in those teasing tones before she reached her hands out to take hold of his and pull him to his feet. If there was one thing that people realized about Gwen sooner rather than later it was that she wasn't afraid to take charge of anything whether it be something like this, or an event, or even an argument. She was a strong woman, both in physicality and will, she would stand up for things that mattered to her. And really, there were some people who couldn't handle that about her. One of her hands kept hold of his as she pulled him out of his room and down to her car, being sure to be a bit quieter than she'd been before coming in. Sometimes the fact that he had a roommate and a young girl living with him slipped her mind. Once outside she stopped and looked over at him with her brows knit in a rather serious expression. "You can swim can't cha?"

don't know what you need ,
luke was a thrill junkie. there were a lot of things for people to get addicted to in the world and honestly, he had heard all the stories. drugs and alcohol and sex and all the other bad habits that to be honest were trivial to him. not that he'd deny any of them (except possibly drugs but that was for his health) but they just weren't the sort of things that he was into. his personality wasn't as addictive as people might think. but the thrill of spontaneity was his drug of choice, and honestly, he could never get enough of it. even from a young age he'd found displeasure in boredom and a distaste for sitting around. he was capable of it, but he didn't enjoy it. he preferred to be out in the open playing with fire or exploring a place he'd never been before. he liked traveling and writing and photography and learning new languages and about different cultures. staying in one place wasn't his forte, and though he was perfectly capable of settling down, he preferred people who fed his sense of adventure.
and shit did gwen ever feed that sense. strong and beautiful and funny, she was an adventure in herself, something new that he was eager to explore. and he didn't mean it in a sexual way and had no intentions of it sounding as such. she was just interesting. she had the same "drive until you're out of gas and then walk until you can't anymore" mentality that he did, was someone who liked to move just to see where they'd wind up. and he liked that not just in a woman but in a friend, in anyone that he wanted to be more than a casual acquaintance with. her tendency to show up out of the blue was exciting, her personality captivating, and though he hated to admit it, she caught him just as fast as another beautiful young lady he once knew. hook, line, and sinker.
not that he was going to act on that out of nowhere. and he wasn't going to let it affect their friendship. it was trivial, elementary to let feelings get in the way of having fun. besides, he was luke taylor. he could just as easily express his affection as he could pass it off as careful teasing if she just wasn't into that sort of thing. he wasn't one to get worked up about it, especially coming off a marriage like this that lasted as long as it had. no, there were far more important things to concern himself with. like where they were going. if his roommate would be okay in the morning without him. why the hell he was wearing a blazer at two in the morning. why the hell he owned a blazer in the first place. there were more important things to think about than just the fact that gwen was holding his hand and pulling him down to her car. like he said - elementary.
the more pressing matter was her asking if he could swim. because honestly, cold connecticut nights and cold connecticut water really just didn't do it for him, though he supposed he'd dealt with worse things before in his lifetime. cold water was the least of his worries. but still it didn't stop his eyebrows from raising at the notion. he was a fire and warmth guy for a reason, after all, and it wasn't just because he thought the colors were pretty. though that definitely played a part too. "i come from australia, mate," he laughed. "we're surrounded by the big blue - it'd be kind of pathetic if that particular skill escaped me." he squeezed her hand. "why? don't say you're hopin' to drown me, chick, we just shared something special out there. you'll break my little heart."
