GRIFFIN MORGAN RHODES
GRADUATE, TWENTY SIX, IN THE CLOSET, SMART ASS, CHARMING, ANDREW GARFIELD
if you coud done thing over in your life, what would it be?
"if i could redo anything in my life, one thing, it would be to have tried to be a better son. i put my parents through a ton of shit, which wasn't particularly fair. if i could have changed that and been the child that my mother and father wanted when i was younger, i would, because i was definitely a yob in my younger years."
looking back on your life, what do you regret?
"exactly what i put up above. i regret being a ruffian when i was a teenager, because it caused my relationship with my mother and father to be estranged most of my life, which is something i wish hadn't of happened. i know i missed a lot with them thanks to my behavior."
what is the secret to a happy life?
"honestly, i don't think i'm old enough to be able to answer this question. i think a happy life, however, comes with the people who you're surrounded by. of course, i wouldn't know as i've never felt completely satisfied with my own life, but i would say that it's your enviroment. it's your friends and your posse that gives you happiness. however, this is just a theory."
what do you believe happens to us after we die?
"we go into the ground. as for the people who are creamated, they go into an urn or into the hands of mother nature. i don't think there's a terrestrial kingdom anywhere but in your own mind. i think that heaven and hell is something that you train yourself to believe in. i can't imagine that there's enough room in the universe for two entirely different worlds full of dead people."
who's had the greatest influence on your life and why?
"i would say my father, even if i always behaved as a tallywacker. my father had morals, something that i've lacked most of my life, and in a way, i still lack. he was a respected man and a man who worked incredibly hard. he didn't give up, even with me. he never stopped trying to teach me to be a respectable young lad, and though i didn't listen to him then, i think those lessons have paid off."
what is the hardest thing you've ever had to do?
"i had to speak at my parent's funeral, which was extremely difficult to do, considering what a little shit i had been to the both of them."
what's important in your life?
"this question could be taken into context several ways. for example, a person could be important in one's life or an object, or a pet. however, in my case, it's a feeling. being successful, in whatever it is that you strive to successful in, his important to me. i haven't always been a very driven man, but after my father passed away, i took my life into better perspective. i turned it around by figuring out what mattered to me and what didn't and i found that living an accomplished life was more appealing than living a regretful one.
where do you find serenity?
"i definitely find peace on boats. when i was a child, before i transformed into a little shit, my father would take me out onto a lake near our estate and we'd fish until the sun had set. sometimes we'd even go past midnight and my father was always willing to take the scoulds that my mother had for him when we arrived home. i've always liked sailing, as well, and the first thing that i did when i had my own job was buy a boat."
what's the most important lesson you've learned in your life?
"to not take things for granted. it's all i did with my parents and now that they're gone, i regret never treating them the way they should have been treated. i never respected them and i never took what they said to the heart. love what you have when you have it, not years after they've left."
how would you like to be remembered?
"as anything but the boy who emotionally terrorized his parents."
if you had ony one day to live, how you live it?
"oh, that's a toughie. of course i could go with tim mcgraw's inspirtational song and say that i want to go sky diving and rocky mountain climbing and to go two-point-seven seconds on a bull named foo-man-chu, but how unoriginal is that? then again, i think any answer to this question is completely banal. i'd apologize to anyone that i'd ever wronged. i'd fix my karma, maybe read the kuran, and clean out my dvr."
what's one big question you'd like answered?
"how does the human mind work?"
what are your failings?
"not realizing how great of parents i had."
what are the advantages of getting older?
"you're able to learn. even though not many people take the opportunity to change their lives as they get older, i did, and i found that i became a much more respectable man, a friend that a friend would like to have. of course, i'm still the biggest smart ass you'll ever meet and i may not be the best that i can be, but i'm working on it."
how would you describe yourself?
"i think i'm very complex, but really, who doesn't like to think that of themself? for starters, i can be a bit of a smart ass. it's just natural for me to be witty and sarcastic and just all around irritating. however, it's not so much as rude as it is just... annoying, so i guess that's a plus, right? it doesn't really scare anyone off either and i've never been told to be so sarcastic, so it's something about myself that i've never worried about changing. lately, however, i've been trying to tone it down. i think i've become a very charming lad to be around as well. i wouldn't exactly call myself prince charming. it's a trait that i've always had, even if it's not always been completely present. that small period that i was a little shit, it wasn't always there, obviously, however after my parents died i started revisiting the skill, practicing it with friends and people i'd meet on the street. eventually, i'd become a very likeable, friendly alluring person. i think of myself as very intelligent. i always got amazing grades in school, even when i was acting like a small ruffian. i always got the best reports and somehow, i always did my homework. however, i was the best in writing. i'm a bloody brilliant writer, which is why i've become a journalist. i'm good with facts and i like to think of myself as an abridged encyclopedia. lastly, i'm gay. i'm not exactly open about it and the only boy i've ever dated i left back in the united kingdom before i moved to new haven. it's not something that i'm very proud of nor do i know how it happened. however, i'm not ashamed of myself- just not proud, either... if that makes any sense at all."
