MAYBE I'M A SHOT IN THE DARK AND YOU'RE THE MORNING LIGHT
YOU COULD BE THE BEST FOR ME AND I'M THE WORST FOR YOU
maybe i'm your mr right, maybe i'm the one you like

what came out of the little girl's mouth was shocking to harley.that's mommy's boyfriend. i don't like him though. sometimes he yells at mommy.. and sometimes he makes mommy cry... that wasn't even the worst part, but still, it surprised harley to hear that quinn had gotten herself into an, or at least what seemed to be, abusive relationship and managed to get herself pregnant. once again, though, it wasn't only her fault. it took two to tango, but still- she had made the silly decision to get wasted and sleep with harley. most people knew to not give into his manipulative lies, but apparently, she hadn't back then. i really don't like it when he hurts mommy though. sometimes he leaves bumps and little boo boos on her arms. he's a meanie, she said and flicked her bright, giant, childish eyes up to glance at harley. even though he was never there for quinn nor delilah and he could honestly say that he didn't know a thing about quinn, but that she was good and sweet and was the mother of his daughter, but for some reason, knowing that she had a boyfriend that hit her and yelled at her made him angry. not upset or mad or even angry, but it made him fuming. why in the world was that, though? because she had his kid? because she gave him a chance to meet his daughter on this day instead of chase him off or just because he knew that she didn't deserve it? she obviously didn't, because she had already been through enough. the fact that this child could comprehend that whoever this man was hitting her mother was very impressive as well. it wasn't every day that you got a child that knew who good people were and who weren't, and it sounded like delilah knew that this kaiden-person was certainly not a good person.
something else hit him and that was his daughter's safety. true, it wasn't too long ago that they had first met, but now that he had met her and saw what an angel she was, he was afraid this guy that was apparently hitting her mother was hitting her as well. that wasn't going to fly with harley, because above all, beating a woman was something that harley was against. abusing a child or a significant other was a cowardly thing to do and he didn't take lightly to that subject. it was why when those words came out of del's mouth, harley's teeth clenched, muscles tensed, and fists into balls.
he continued to watch the kid play before he heard quinn's soft voice call out to her. she kneeled in the sand and began to converse with delilah, telling her that it was time to leave and that this woman-beating, coward-faced kaiden-person wanted them home for lunch. harley bet he did. he had to bite his tongue to avoid saying anything about the topic, because one, it really wasn't his place to say anything and quinn would most likely remind him of that. two, he didn't want to get delilah into any kind of trouble for telling harley what her home life was really like, or at least giving him a glimpse of it.
delilah made a frowny face to harley, but instead of returning one back, instead he offered a small grin. hey now, don't frown, boo. we'll play again, i promise. he said, which could of been quite bold, but he flicked his eyes quickly at quinn again before glancing back at delilah with a wink. before quinn could ultimately leave though, harley stood up, rising to a full height of six feet and two inches once again. uh, quinn? can i, uh, talk to you for a second? he said, sticking his hands awkwardly into his front pockets. he turned around to walk a couple steps away, but before he did so, he looked over his shoulder at her and talked again. i'll ony be a couple of seconds, i promise. and promise wasn't a word that he threw around loosely.
