our hearts are heavy burdens so goodnight you, and goodnight moon, when you're all that i think about, all that i dream about. how'd i ever breathe without a goodight kiss from goodnight you. the kind of hope they all talk about, the kind of feeling we sing about. sit in our bedrooms and read aloud like a passage from goodnight moon. then here you were, and i saw my juliet come graceful down the stairs. it's hard to miss the way her eyes light up the room and still the air. the twenty third of december finally arrived. it was the night that icarus had been waiting for since a week ago, when he asked adaline taylor if she'd escort him to his employee christmas party. originally he wasn't going to go. he'd even tracked down the number of who he had to un-rsvp to, because he threw away the invitation. when he took a leap and asked her out, he was at morgan's apartment later that night, banging on his door to get his invitation. he had even bought a new silk red tie, just for this occasion. he was acting like such a girl. a girl who had just been asked to prom by the boy she'd been crushing on since the third grade. this was icarus, a man who was twenty eight years old. he was full-grown, and he was acting like a hormonal sixteen year old girl. he didn't get excited about dates or going to staff parties with a girl he liked. he didn't even go to staff parties! adaline probably wasn't reacting this way at all. there was a part of him that doubted she even wanted to go to this thing. after all, it seemed like a date. after how they ended, there was no way in hell that adaline would ever let there be a relationship between them so soon, if she even got involved with him again.
icarus hadn't seen adaline since he asked her. he'd texted her every now and then, to reassure himself that she wanted to go and give her directions to where the party was and when, but he hadn't actually had a conversation with her. he hadn't heard her voice since, either, despite all his temptations of calling her. instead of bumping into her, he got an even lovelier gift, which went by the name of noah. icarus liked to call him adaline's 'new man.' as far as he knew, ada hadn't been with a boyfriend since he'd dumped her, but instead, she'd found this little gay guy. there were no complaints from icarus, though. he was gay, and from what he'd observed of the boy, he definitely wasn't secretly straight and screwing ada while she slept. at least there were none until he had an actual conversation with the guy.
he'd been on edge ever since then. when he thought of he and adaline and reviewed their conversations and daydreamed about their 'date' his mood lightened a bit, but he was still fuming over what happened. of all the gay people in the world, she had to find the biggest asshole of them all. he tried not to think of it too much, but every time he thought of adaline, he thought of stupid ass noah. it was sort of a win but lose situation. he got happier when he thought about ada, but when he thought about ada, he thought about the conversation he had with noah. he was immediately redirected back to thoughts of her, though, which only reminded him about noah's terrifying expression when he left that night. it was also a never ending cycle.
around six o'clock, he heard a knocking on his door, and he was happy to see that it was only morgan. since leaving the bar, he'd had an ongoing nightmare that noah would find out where he lived and assail him there. he had become hesitant to open the door because of it. when he opened it to morgan, though, it was almost as worse. "hey buddy. when are you meeting your lady?" he said, with an emphasis on the 'lady' part. icarus shut the door in response, and could hear howls of laughter from his friend in the hall. was he really that pathetic? so pathetic that his best friend was humiliating him by teasing him about adaline?
then it was seven o'clock, and it was time to put his suit on. it was one that he hadn't worn in a long time, but it still fit like a glove. when he looked in the mirror, he thought he looked pretty good. handsome and dashing. hell, he could have been prince charming in another life. he'd shaved completely, not leaving any stubble behind like he usually did. by seven forty five, the time that icarus had anticipated for a week had finally arrived. he returned to the mirror, where he gave himself a pep talk, much one his baseball coach used to give him, with a few modifications. "you're awesome, koufidakis. you're a badass. you can do this. it's just adaline. that asshole gay man is just jealous of you. don't think about noah. think about adaline, and touching her hair, and her lips, and..." he paused before he got too explicit. "you're ready, man. you. can. do this" he nodded to himself, winking at his reflection in the mirror. he fed mort and julian, his miniature pinschers, who morgan called his boyfriends, and created a 'nest' out of blankets for them, turned on star wars: clone wars, and left his apartment.
it wasn't long before his nissan gtr pulled into the parking lot of a certain high school. he glanced at himself in the mirror again, flashed himself a wink for a boost of self esteem, and popped out of the car. it was eight oh seven, seven minutes after the party originally started, and it was a perfect time to arrive. he recognized morgan's car not so far down, as well as thirty other early birds/kiss asses. he stuffed one hand in his pocket, while the other held his phone as he looked mindlessly at the blank, black screen. what was he stressing over? there was no one answer to that question. nine hundred fifty nine words, icarus/hannah and adaline/renee, outfit, yay finally omg. |

then again, adaline (as noah liked to remind her) was a different breed of human being and thought it perfectly acceptable to wear potato sacks to formal events so long as it meant her attire reached the ground. so instead of freaking out and insisting she go out and buy her own dress for the occasion, she did what she thought was the only smart option. she brought in noah because seeing as he bought all the dresses in the first place, he would definitely know which was the most appropriate for a christmas party.
"put all of that blue away before you hurt yourself," noah muttered, tsking behind her as she continued to study her reflection. she didn't see what was so wrong with what she was wearing. it was the longest dress of the bunch and though she had lost a little weight since the last time she wore it, she didn't think it was too noticeable. the pattern was a little weird and admittedly it wouldn't be even her first choice and she was fashionably challenged but she figured that if noah bought it he must have liked it at some point. maybe it looked different when she was heavier or something. but this led noah into talking about how she couldn't just wear blue to a christmas party because while it met the color scheme usually associated with winter due to the ice and frost and cold, it was not only the wrong shade of blue but still inappropriate for the occasion when most people would be focused on the red and green aspect of it and honestly adaline don't you ever read?
he pulled out another dress not long after getting her out of the blue one, which was actually the fourth dress in the long line of dresses he had picked out for her to try so she didn't quite understand why he was whining at her for these dress choices when they were in fact actually what he laid out. but she didn't say that. instead she just grabbed the dress he was holding out to her and pulled it on, noticing with a bit of satisfaction that he must have bought this one a little more recently because it actually fit in all of the places that it was supposed to and didn't make her seem like a girl wearing her mother's hand-me-downs to prom because they couldn't afford another dress. the only problem she found was that, again, it was too short and it was far too cold for her to be wearing such a dress outside. not to mention, she found it a little inappropriate to be wearing something like that in front of icarus. she was just going as his friend, after all. just his friend. she had a feeling that just friends didn't wear clothes like that when meeting each other. but noah reminded her with a friendly (and slightly mischievous) smile that he was her friend and he'd bought it for her to wear with him so what was the harm in wearing it with icarus? and with that in mind, he dragged her off to the bathroom, insisting that she really ought to let him do something with that mane she called a head of hair.
after an hour of primping and changing and preparing, noah finally got addie to look something resembling socially acceptable and deemed her ready to go and meet her prince charming - or as he so lovingly called him her "friendly neighborhood asshole". not that noah held any resentment toward him that she knew about. she figured it was just how he referred to everyone. because in all actuality, it kind of was. she didn't dwell over it long, though. first, because the second she walked out the door she was frozen solid (she was going to kill noah) and second, because she was already five minutes late and if she didn't hurry, she was going to feel like shit for making icarus wait. so she kissed her roommate on the cheek, grabbed a handbag, said her goodbyes and promised to fix her makeup when she got to the school so she didn't look like a complete trash heap when she met with icarus.
when she arrived at the school, she completely forgot to do that. the time read ten minutes after eight and she was already feeling bad because she wasn't necessarily sure when icarus got there or if he was even there and if he was how long he'd been waiting. she sat in her car for a moment after parking, savoring the warmth, and pulled out her phone to debate texting him. but then she saw what she missed while pulling into the parking lot - icarus standing next to a car, looking as stunning as ever in a suit and tie, a combination she rarely if ever saw him in. careful not to bite her lip (god damn noah and his stupid insisting that she wore lipstick) as she surveyed him, she sat for a few seconds before deciding that she was there and should probably join him. with that in mind, she got out of her car and started walking toward him, pulling a jacket tighter over herself (not that it did much as the jacket was only slightly longer than the dress and god damn it she was going to kill noah) and waving to catch icarus's attention. when she finally reached him she stopped short and wrapped her arms around herself and then said, "hi." she paused and surveyed the man in front of her again before looking down at herself and laughing slightly at realizing how cold she was. "sorry i'm late. noah was...well dressing me sounds bad doesn't it? i'll just say noah was perfecting my image and he takes so long to do everything, i swear." she looked up at him. "you look great, though. very sharp. very handsome. you should wear suits more often."

"hi."his mouth twitched at the corners in response. "sorry i'm late. noah was...well dressing me sounds bad doesn't it? i'll just say noah was perfecting my image and he takes so long to do everything, i swear." noah dressed her tonight? he knew that she was going out with him, right? obviously it was't some sort of date, but only a friend doing a favor for another one, and even if it was a date, icarus had a feeling that noah really would have covered every part of her body. at first, icarus thought that noah just didn't know where adaline was going, but that couldn't have been the truth. from what he knew, adaline and noah were best friends. she probably told noah everything, much like she used to tell icarus everything. that only reminded him of how much he envied the idiot. he wasn't allowed to dwell on his burning dislike for noah long before she spoke again, though. "you look great, though. very sharp. very handsome. you should wear suits more often."
it'd be a lie if icarus said that the comment didn't make a wide, bright smile appear on his face. there couldn't be one man on this earth that didn't appreciate being told that they should wear suits more often because of how handsome they looked in one. the compliment meant even more for icarus since it had come from adaline. it'd only be rude if icarus didn't comment on how beautiful she looked tonight, right? he was just being a considerate friend if he told her how hot she looked and how much he wished that she owned that dress when they were together- of course he wouldn't use those exact words, but along those lines. "you're looking pretty hot yourself." he winked at her. it wasn't inappropriate to call her 'hot' right? it's not like he had told her that the dress made him extremely... well, 'happy.'
"i'm actually surprised that noah, uh... dressed you. after the conversation he and i had last saturday... well, i don't have to tell you, right?" if the two were as close as it seemed, she definitely knew about the talk that noah and icarus had. icarus could have let things be awkward, or he could have manned up and not let it get to him. the latter sounded good, even though there was the potential of things being awkward. after all, he had gotten pretty personal with noah that night. "uh, we can... i don't know, go in now? you look pretty cold." he said, directing his eyes toward her legs again and then back at her. how was she not frozen yet? he held his arm out, in the way that he intended for her to loop hers around. "i'm just warning, you, though. i'm a baby compared to these dinosaurs." he grinned with another wink. six hundred thirty three words, icarus/hannah and adaline/renee, outfit, yay finally omg. |

she didn't know how to answer that, and honestly she didn't want to. so she pushed the issue to the back of her mind and just smiled up at icarus instead. she really needed to just....let go. have a little fun. it was a business party but it was still a party after all and it wouldn't do to walk around looking all sulky. that was ten different levels of rude. besides she didn't really feel sulky and she didn't want her thoughts dragging her down to that level. she was fine being starstruck. well for now.
he called her hot. adaline was extremely grateful for the cold for a second as she felt her cheeks grow hot - that red could easily be from the chill of the air and it kept her from ducking her head and looking too childish. after all, she'd been called hot before - hell, icarus had called her hot before. it wasn't some big surprise or some shocking revelation that gosh, when she put on a short dress and did her hair, she looked hot. it was something she knew but conceited as she could sometimes come off because she was sick of getting complimented on her appearance, hearing it from icarus's mouth made her feel like she was seventeen again. she opened her mouth, ready to say something - anything, she wasn't really sure - in response when icarus started talking again. about noah. questioning that he dressed her. and then....she let her smile slip down into something of a frown. conversation last saturday? that couldn't be right. noah told her he had been visiting with an old friend. icarus was hardly someone he could call an old friend.
but then, why would icarus lie to her about that? noah was far more known for lying for his own gain and the idea that he was withholding this information made her feel like something had happened that noah thought would upset her. and that didn't settle well with her. she made a mental note to talk to noah about it later but as for now she didn't want to ruin the mood. she put the smile back on her face, though it was smaller than before and laughed. "i was a bit surprised at the dress choice, too," she said, "all things considered...but he's the one who buys all my dresses anyway. this is modest compared to some of them." and it was. that was the saddest part. she honestly didn't know how half of those things had ended up in her closet nor could she remember if she'd worn all of them. she had a feeling that she had and made another mental note to take that up with noah as well. she was fine being used by her friend as arm candy for business purposes, but there was a certain line he shouldn't cross. he would be making a few returns when she got back to the house.
all thoughts of wardrobe and noah and killing roommates were pushed to the side, though, when icarus mentioned going inside, and she said a quick, "oh god thank you," with another short laugh before holding onto the arm he offered out to her. "i don't think i can feel my legs anymore." she kept the idea of his co-workers in mind (oh god, was she going to be forced to interact with them? that certainly made her wish noah liked to buy clothes that actually covered her body) as he led her inside the building and told her it was in the teacher's lounge, preparing her for what she was going to find in there. when they arrived, she saw it was simple - simple decorations, nothing fancy, and she and icarus weren't overdressed which made her feel a little less self-conscious. but then a few heads turned as they walked in and she held on tighter to icarus's arm. "well at least it's warmer," she muttered, more to herself than to icarus, but she supposed it was open for everyone to hear. she just never quite liked it when she was sober and everyone was staring.

our hearts are heavy burdens so goodnight you, and goodnight moon, when you're all that i think about, all that i dream about. how'd i ever breathe without a goodight kiss from goodnight you. the kind of hope they all talk about, the kind of feeling we sing about. sit in our bedrooms and read aloud like a passage from goodnight moon. then here you were, and i saw my juliet come graceful down the stairs. it's hard to miss the way her eyes light up the room and still the air. adaline took a hold of his arm, and here came the moths in icarus' stomach. moths, not butterflies- he and morgan had decided that butterflies just sounded humiliating for a straight boy to say. men still got that feeling though, which was the sensation that icarus had right now. they were the moths in his gut, flying every which way. he wasn't embarrassed to admit that the moths deep down were there either. why would he? he'd been pining over adaline for the longest time, wishing that he could feel her touch again, and now here she was, for the first time since they had met, touching his arm. it was a good feeling- a very, very good feeling. it was almost as good as the way he'd felt when she first approached him. that feeling... damn. he was almost hesitant to take her inside. the geezers inside didn't deserve to be in her presence.
he led her inside, though, keeping steady footsteps with her. he turned a hall, adaline still on his arm, and slowed his pace which forced her to slow down as well. he didn't want to enter the room. he wasn't regretting the decision of bringing her, because if that was the case, he would have cancelled, even though, if he had done that, all their progress would probably be ruined. he obviously wanted to be accompanied by ada, but he didn't want to introduce her to his co-workers. maybe it was silly for him to worry about such a small thing, but he felt like if he introduced her to them, ada would feel pressured. perhaps she'd feel like icarus was trying to push her back into a relationship, and while it was his intention to get back to the point of where they left off before he got selfish and dumped her, he didn't want things to go too fast. if things went at a pace that neither of them were ready for, then who knows what their future held? if there was something in their futures that involved the both of them, together, at all.
they entered the room, and he was excited to feel the tighten of her grip on his arm. it comforted him just as much as it comforted her. "well at least it's warmer." he smiled slightly at her comment. that was true. he surveyed the room, and he was happy to see that they weren't overdressed at all. in fact, they were just perfect. there were a few familiar faces that were a little bit too fancy for the occasion, which icarus was selfishly happy for. as he scrutinized the room, icarus tightened the muscles and veins in his arms, something he did when he was nervous or trying to adapt to uncomfortable situations. it was much like when people clenched their teeth or those who shake when they get mad. even though he wasn't necessarily in a rough spot, it was still sort of... well, pretty awkward, that's what it was. all these people probably thought that he was gay, seeing as how close he had become with morgan after the five months of knowing him.
he was actually surprised that the little gay elf hadn't found them yet. he never missed a chance to humiliate icarus. this would be the irritating leprechaun's dream. icarus' foolish mistake of bringing ada was his pot of gold. it slipped his mind what his friend was capable of doing when he invited her. he just had to hope that they wouldn't run into him. if icarus did spot the little man in the crowd, he'd keep moving. sounded like a plan, right?
he made his way with ada to a somewhat secluded area near an empty table. it was just nice to get out of the spotlight. being the new guy was bad enough. "they think i'm gay. that's why they were looking at us," he nervously laughed. "at least morg-" he couldn't finish his sentence before a small man, who was at least a foot shorter than icarus and about two inches less than adaline appeared behind his 'date.' icarus' eyes grew large, and he had to restrain himself from shooing him off like a dog.
he sort of resembled a penguin as he waddled closer towards the pair. "hey buddy." he said, a large, happy grin glued onto his face. "is this your lady you've been ranting and raving about?" he looked from icarus to adaline, studying her like noah had done to icarus the first time he'd seen him. however icarus ignored his question. he had a feeling morgan already knew the answer. "thanks morgan. you can leave now." he said, raising his voice a notch or two, and his eyes still as big as baby worlds. for some reason icarus thought that was going to work- it didn't, because morgan remained switching his glance between icarus and ada. eight hundred seventeen words, icarus/hannah and adaline/renee, outfit, lol this was poo. |

she chuckled quietly, looking back at icarus's co-workers when he mentioned they thought he was gay in time to see someone walking up to them. she politely arranged her features into a look of quiet interest, something she'd learned from doing various interviews with artists and playwrights she really had no interest to be talking to at all. however when the name 'morgan' reached her ears, she did find herself perking up. icarus obviously knew this guy; wasn't he just about to talk about him earlier? her eyes flickered up and down the body of the new addition to their group but she didn't let him steal her attention for long. she was soon looking back at icarus with an amused sort of grin, letting her grip go a little more slack on his arm but not letting go. she was still a stranger among his friends, after all, and she was going to need him for guidance, but she didn't get a weird vibe from this morgan guy. in fact, he even made her laugh.
it didn't help that icarus looked like morgan had a bomb strapped to his back that was set to explode at any minute either. the effect this face had on the entire situation made it all that more humorous and she found herself ignoring noah's advice and actually biting down on her lip to keep from laughing. she knew it wasn't funny. co-workers could be a real pain; she knew how it was. after all noah was frequently getting her into sticky situations that she didn't know how to escape from and she had a feeling that her expression looked like a lot like icarus's half the time when she was out with her roommate. still, it didn't make it any less funny, and she found herself shaking slightly with the effort not to burst out into loud laughter. then morgan said something about icarus's lady that he had been ranting and raving about, and adaline turned to him with a wide grin, touching his arm lightly with her free hand.
"icarus koufidakis, you player, have you been talking about other ladies behind my back?" which she knew wasn't what morgan meant and wasn't the truth in the slightest based on what icarus had told her in the past few days but it was a nice joke to make anyway to lighten the mood a bit. she looked back at the man who had joined them afterward, beaming at him as she realized that he wasn't going to leave. "don't scare off your friends now. you got to meet one of mine, so i think it's a fair exchange that i get to meet one of yours." she gave icarus a look as she said this, as if to tell him that really fair was fair and this guy honestly couldn't be any worse than noah. it would be hard to find someone worse than noah really. and with that in mind she took her free hand off icarus's arm and extended out to the man standing next to the pair. "i'm adaline," she said, "since icarus seems to have lost his ability to speak."

our hearts are heavy burdens so goodnight you, and goodnight moon, when you're all that i think about, all that i dream about. how'd i ever breathe without a goodight kiss from goodnight you. the kind of hope they all talk about, the kind of feeling we sing about. sit in our bedrooms and read aloud like a passage from goodnight moon. then here you were, and i saw my juliet come graceful down the stairs. it's hard to miss the way her eyes light up the room and still the air. one that didn't know about the relationship that morgan and icarus shared might think that icarus was reacting like a baby. in all reality, though, he wasn't. one would probably think that this was the worse that icarus could get, but it really wasn't. morgan was icarus' best friend, like noah was ada's. they were both gay, and they both had the ability to understand the situation that their 'children' were in (gay people always were a lot more sensitive for some reason). they both didn't seem to care, though. however, morgan was much more nice about it than noah seemed to be. at the same time, though, icarus' friend was constantly teasing him about it. all day that's exactly what he had been doing. all this week in fact. when morgan found icarus and noah going at it on saturday night, it sort of jump started his knowledge of icarus' problem. he was clueless, like icarus had intended him to be, until then. hiding his position proved to be the wrong thing to do as well. since icarus had tried to keep this secret from him instead of coming out and telling him, morgan had been giving him hell about. he'd created hypothetical scenarios about ada, like what if she was secretly fucking noah or actually a lesbian or was just playing with icarus' feelings before she dumped him on his ass like he had with her.
it was actually starting to get to him. even though the first two of those story lines didn't seem very plausible, but that last one? it was definitely a possibility. then again, adaline wasn't that cruel. at least he didn't remember her to be. could a person really change that much? or could it be that it didn't matter who adaline was anymore, it just mattered that what icarus did was a horrible thing to do and she wanted revenge? who knows, but morgan was certainly having a good time fabricating nightmares.
he snapped out of his own small world when he felt another hand on his arm. "icarus koufidakis, you player, have you been talking about other ladies behind my back?" he raised the left corner of his mouth into a half smile for no less than three seconds, before he returned to sending daggers with his eyes at morgan. "don't scare off your friends now. you got to meet one of mine, so i think it's a fair exchange that i get to meet one of yours." yeah, except icarus would have been fine if he had never of met noah. in fact, he would have felt a lot of safer for his well being if he hadn't. it was all thanks to morgan why he had a constant fear of noah showing up at his apartment with a meat cleaver.
the difference between noah and morgan was that ada's friend was a lot more menacing than icarus' little guy. while he should have been okay with adaline meeting morgan, because he was nothing like noah and he was actually happy that ada had reentered icarus' life, but he wasn't. the thing about morgan was that he was amazing at humiliating icarus. he had no boundaries, no limits to what he could and couldn't say about icarus. he didn't care about crossing icarus' lines, because to morgan, those lines were nonexistent.
adaline's hand lifted from icarus' arm, and a wave of disappoint swept through icarus' body. that was comforting- just as comforting as having her body so close to him, so close he could smell the perfume she was wearing, which was a vanilla-y kind of scent. "i'm adaline, since icarus seems to have lost his ability to speak." icarus was extremely tempted to spit out a rude comment, about how talking to morgan was like feeding the ducks at the park- once they got a piece, they didn't leave. he watched as morgan took a firm hold of adaline's hand, shaking it, and dropping it. "morgan murdoch, at your service." the small bearded man took his eyes off of ada before looking back at icarus' glare.
"now i'm wondering why i haven't heard of you before. i've been icarus' best friend since june. almost time to celebrate our seven month anniversary, buddy!" morgan raised a hand to put it on icarus' shoulder, which his head didn't even rise over. "i even watch his dogs for him. little mort and julian. i helped pick them out, too. they're adorable- they're little black and red miniature pinschers, and oh my god, they. are. cute." here was the part that icarus was afraid of. the whole 'i'm gonna give your girl here personal facts about that could possibly make you look like a loser, and even if it doesn't, at least you'll be embarrassed' was never icarus' favorite part about morgan. even if adaline didn't think that icarus had turned into some softie, he still wished morgan would just walk away.
"yeah, morgan. pumped. i am so pumped for our friendaversary, i'm gonna tell adaline here just how pumped i am." he pulled the arm that adaline had a hold on away from her and instead wrapped it around her shoulders. he squeezed in that 'we're such good friends' kind of way and crinkled his nose into a smile at morgan. he turned away from him after a moment, though, and towards ada. "please don't encourage him," he muttered softly, leaning closer towards ada's ear. this was fine, right? it's not like he was slobbering on her neck or ear or something. "before he really does humiliate me?" he leaned away and met her gray eyes with his large, chocolate ones. if the whole seduction-through-sexy-ear-mutters didn't work, maybe his adorable, boyish eyes would. he was told by his students he could do the whole 'smolder' thing pretty well.
but then he heard a "mr. koufidakis, are you trying to get rid of me?" and all of his hopes were shattered. adaline really couldn't even begin to comprehend how much morgan irritated him sometimes. he was his best friend, but sometimes he was just a gnat- no, a swarm of gnats- flying around his head, buzzing in his ears. one thousand twenty one, icarus/hannah and adaline/renee, outfit, lol this was like a fucking scene oh my god. don't hate me pls. |

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, width: 400px; background-color: #343434; padding:20px; border-top: 10px #af9390 solid; border-bottom: 10px #af9390 solid;] repair your broken wings ( WORDS ) 878 ( TAGGED ) HANNAH/ICARUS ( STATUS ) COMPLETE adaline didn't know if she should be embarrassed for icarus or amused or what. to be honest, she thought morgan was funny. a little talkactive and he said some things that were unintentionally hurtful, but how was he supposed to know that adaline wouldn't appreciate hearing anything that had to do with seven months ago? honestly, she couldn't even remember what she was feeling seven months ago, though she would bet more money than she had that it definitely was not a good feeling. besides, morgan wasn't nearly as bad as noah - at least he was hitting on either of them whereas had the roles been reversed and she for some reason asked icarus to accompany her to one of noah's numerous staff parties, she had a feeling both of them would have been in danger of noah being predatory. gay or not, he had a way of making even females feel like they had a chance and he took any chance he could to embarrass her by doing that, seeing as he knew how much she hated it. so at least morgan wasn't creepy.
icarus, though, was treating him like he was some deadly disease he didn't want to catch, and ada wasn't sure if this was normal behavior from him around morgan or not. maybe the way he socialized had changed or maybe he actually didn't like morgan at all. she wasn't sure. she just knew that watching them interact was like being at a family reunion and watching her mom talk to her grandmother - painful if not incredibly amusing and she was just waiting for the moment when morgan called icarus a slut and stormed out of the party. just like back home. it never happened, though. instead icarus put his arm around her, saying something about telling her about a friendaversary and she didn't even have time to be amused before he was leaning down and oh god she could feel his breath on her ear as he spoke and it sent unnecessary but pleasant chills down her spine.
momentarily distracted by the presence of his lips and breath and who in god's name gave him permission to get close anyway?, it took her a second to realize that he was actually forming words. "please don't encourage him." she almost pouted. why not? he seemed like he'd be a nice addition. a little out-there but again, who was she to judge after who she chose to live with after icarus dumped her? but then, "before he really does humiliate me?" she had to keep herself from actually looking surprised. icarus was embarrassed. well that was certainly a new experience for her. she was fairly certain that "icarus koufidakis doesn't get embarrassed," could have been used as her ex's catchphrase once upon a time and now it just takes a little man with a beard and seven months of information to come up and get him afraid of being embarrassed. or maybe it wasn't morgan; maybe it was that he was talking to her. well regardless, the idea that icarus could even get embarrassed came as something of a surprise and it was probably that that made her end up agreeing in her head that she'd help.
well that and the fact that he was now staring into her eyes and she honestly had no idea how anyone could resist do everything icarus said while he was looking at them. honestly, his eyes should be banned along with his lips and breath and his insane ability to get under her skin and drive her absolutely insane by doing even just the smallest of things. she was powerless to him when he started being icarus and that wasn't fair. a law should definitely be put into place. quickly. before she did something she could regret when she came out of her icarus-induced stupor.
god she had to get her mind off of him - difficult now that his arm was actually around her, encompassing her, and she could feel the added weight pressing down on her. so she smiled at morgan and said, "well, it really was nice to meet you morgan murdoch. and i hope your friendaversary is wonderful." and not nearly as homo-erotic as it sounds, she could almost hear noah chime in in her head, and she had to force herself not to laugh as to avoid looking like a crazy person. however, she had no idea where to go from there. morgan didn't seem like an easy person to get rid of, and all of her experiences with getting rid of people involved walking away and she wasn't going to do that to icarus or any of his friends. she wanted to be liked after all - if people in his life liked her, it'd be easier to try and settle back in with him. not that, that should be her goal, but she couldn't help that subconscious thought from rising in figuring out how to get rid of morgan. the only thing she could think of to say was...nothing. what she last said was dismissal enough for her; besides, she'd never really paid attention to how to get rid of people. they always just sort of....left eventually.
