a month and a half. six long weeks. that's how long she'd been without seeing icarus. of course, she'd gone longer - obviously, their relationship ended the first time and they avoided each other for two years. so really even almost two months shouldn't have been that big of a deal. but it was. because even if their relationship wasn't brand new or fresh or something that they hadn't been used to by this point...well it had just started up again. she had just been able to get used to kissing him, to touching him, to being near him, and then just like that he had been taken away. okay, he had a good reason. going to greece was something she knew her boyfriend particularly loved and she didn't much blame him. it didn't hold a light to australia, but it was beautiful. and though it was painful to go without him, she knew that she'd want him to return the favor if she wanted to go back to the land down under for about a month to visit with her family. their relationship had just started up again - she honestly wasn't going to intrude on something as personal as greece.
but finally, he was coming back. finally she could drive to the airport to meet him, to greet him, to have him back with her. their relationship was two months old and she had spent most of that time trying to work around time schedules so that she could talk to him via skype - not the most romantic thing in the world that she'd ever done but at least she got to see her boyfriend's handsome face every now and then and talk to him until one of them depending on their respective time zone would fall asleep. they were really going to make it work this time. hell, they wanted to make it work, and adaline was more than thrilled at the opportunity to give him another chance. losing icarus was painful the first time. it hurt her more than she honestly liked to acknowledge at times, crushed her, and noah - when she was more upfront about her relationship- was bound to tell her that he was just going to do it again. but she didn't give a shit what noah thought. icarus wanted to make this work as badly as she did. if he didn't, they wouldn't be dating. that was just the way it was and noah fucking cervantes was no one to get involved in her dating life. he had no say over what she did - that, at least, hadn't changed since the day she met him.
noah aside, though, she had to say that spending more than half of their newly established relationship over skype was probably good for them. she was afraid of rushing into things with icarus again too quickly, moving far too fast and scaring him off again. after all, hadn't that been what scared him off the first time? she agreed to move with him to america and then suddenly he got scared and bailed? she didn't want that again. she liked taking things at a leisurely pace even if they didn't have to and the distance helped with that. they were not any less affectionate with the things they said, but it helped keep physical attention to a definite low and in her opinion, that was going to work in their favor. she couldn't speed things with him. not after what had happened last time. they were rebuilding their relationship, not trying to feed the flames to be larger than before.
she was happy to have him home in spite of that, though. happy to be able to see him face to face instead of just on her small computer screen, happy to actually be able to hug him or kiss him. she wasn't too big on public displays of affection and with icarus by this point, she wasn't even too big on private displays of affection, but hell, she'd been with him for two months but only physically with him for two weeks. she was going to explode if she didn't see him soon, and she was eager to have him back with her. so she had agreed to be the one to pick him up at the airport - shit, hadn't she earned that right? titan and the rest of his family got to see him enough, thank you very much, and she wanted her time with him, even if it was just a short period alone.
and that was how she found herself waiting at the airport -- not at the gate, which she was a little surprised to find was no longer allowed but in an area separated off near security where there was a section filled with chairs, in which sat those waiting for their loved ones. she took a seat in one of them, tapping her foot as she checked her phone for the time. she was a little early if his flight was running on time, but she hadn't gotten anything form icarus yet so she figured that they hadn't landed. she bit down on her lip and settled back in the chair. one and a half months of a waiting. she supposed a few more minutes wouldn't kill her.

hjkljlk I'VE GOT ALL THIS RINGING IN MY EARS AND NONE ON MY FINGERS it may not have been exactly the boyfriend thing to do, especially not after the two year long separation that they had just previously recovered from, but it was something that icarus loved to do. it was practically a tradition, if not a lifestyle. hell, it was even a hobby. visiting his 'homeland' of greece was something that icarus didn't get to do often so when he got the chance to do it, he did it, regardless of whatever situation he was in. as bad as it might sound out loud, but as much as icarus loved adaline, he wasn't willing to give up a month long trip visiting family in athens as well as the city itself. obviously he loved his girlfriend- he didn't go through with all the shit that he had put himself and her through because he didn't love her- but he loved vacations to his home just as much. it really took a lot of stress off of him as well. there was something about greece that calmed icarus, that restored the peace in his life. even though he had adaline back and he could revert back to using her as his personal serenity whenever he wanted, as silly as it sounded, he had some weird connection with greece. he needed greece. if icarus ruled the world, he'd make everyone visit the country at least once a year. it was so beautiful and dream-like, there'd never be any conflict.
however, all good things had to come to an end. icarus, unfortunately, had to return to the reality known as hartford, connecticut. fortunately, for him, though, he was returning home to adaline taylor, the love his life and as he liked to call her, his permanent girlfriend. even though he'd miss waking up to the bright sun and sweet air in greece, adaline was on his mind the whole time he was experiencing his homeland all over again. it was honestly a shame that he had chosen the time he did to travel, because it hadn't even been three weeks that they restarted their relationship before he hopped on a plane and left for almost two months across an entire ocean and spent that time on a whole different continent. as far as he could tell, though, she wasn't upset or angry with him that he had taken a solo vacation for this long of time. as far as he knew, she understood that greece was a special part of him. after all, he was born and raised there. it was just like if she wanted to visit her home. he understood that australia was adaline's greece and if she wanted to visit the continent for a couple weeks, he'd completely understand.
though adaline was the main reason he was excited to return home, she wasn't the only reason. he had other priorities in hartford, like his friends, especially morgan, who he was sure was having a hard time surviving without him. there were his dogs who icarus probably missed just as much as he missed adaline, and as much as he hated to admit it, he probably missed his job the same amount, too. he didn't miss waking up at five o'clock in the morning every day to lead a normal routine nor did he miss his coworkers. however, he did miss his students and his classroom. as weird as it might have sounded and even to say, icarus missed working. he missed bossing a bunch of fifteen year olds around and having things his way. he missed teaching- call him crazy for it, too.
of course, there were some cons about his home away from home as well, the main one being noah flipping cervantes, his girlfriend's apparent best friend. it wasn't that he was a bad guy, he was just... no, that was exactly what he was. he was an irritating, annoying, frustrating, bad guy. he had no limits, no barriers, no filters. he was rude and obnoxious and for whatever reason, he hated icarus. by this point, hadn't the twenty eight year old proved he wasn't the tool that noah was convinced he was? apparently not, which made icarus dislike the friendship that noah and adaline had even more. then again, he couldn't exactly blame ada. of course he could wish that she had befriended someone else, but she was alone when she found noah. she didn't have any friends, any family, anywhere to go, and noah was the first best thing that had came her way. in a way, he was a tiny bit grateful for him. if ada hadn't of found noah, who knows where she would have gone? back to australia, probably. he still didn't like the kid, but there was at least one thing he could like about noah.
as icarus' flight landed at the terminal, though, all he wanted to do was find adaline. all he wanted to do was see her glowing face and hug her warm body again. for the past month and a half, there relationship had been based around skype, through a computer screen. he wanted nothing else but to find her and spend every waking second with only her. the crowds seemed to go on forever and as he scanned the conveyor belt for his luggage, he grew even more anxious. within ten minutes, though, he had found his two bags, one of which he hoisted on his shoulder while the other was roll-able. the extra weight on his back, thanks to his travel duffel bag and backpack that he had used as carry-on, would have been unbearable if he wasn't so determined to find adaline.
thankfully, he was able to get through the crowds with considerable speed. he passed the checkpoint that meant from whatever point he wasn't allowed to turn around and neared the waiting area full of people there for their loved ones. of course, the only person he was worried about was adaline, who, by some miracle, he spotted right away. his pace quickened as best as it could without straining his strength too much, though it must have been excitement that got him there so fast, because within minutes, he was standing only a foot or so in front of her. he let the duffel fall from his shoulder and let go of the handle of the suitcase. honey, i'm home. KIT AS NIXIE, CLOTHES, LOL THE ENDING WAS SORT OF REALLY BAD BUT IDGAFFFFF ~

waiting had never been more painful. adaline found herself glancing down at her phone every thirty seconds or so, hoping that each time she did, she would look back up and there he would be. all of him. the man who had been her life for so long. honestly, she was incredibly impatient to see him. life had moved on well enough without him there. she went to work, interviewed some stars, hung out with work friends. the usual. she tried not to focus on him being gone. greece was important to him and she was a big girl. she wasn't going to get upset over him being gone. noah, ever helpful, took her out a few times just to "ease her troubled mind" and he'd been some help in just distracting her. not to mention, adjusting to barbra's presence helped. for the most part, though, while icarus was gone, it was easy not to miss him terribly. with him so close to being in her grasp again, though, she was beginning to get antsy.
icarus did that to her, though. he derailed her. she prided herself on the fact that she didn't wear her emotions on her sleeve. typically, if she was upset, no one knew. she wore a mask, a mask that was very hard to lift, and to the outside world, she was consistently happy, consistently poised, and consistently professional. nothing got to her. icarus, though...he was something else, had always been something else. he got to her the way nobody else in the world could, if only because of her affection for him. she had given everything up for him once upon a time - her heart, her body, hell, even australia. he wasn't just some guy. he wasn't someone that she could disregard. he was icarus koufidakis, damn it, and he knew it. he made her vulnerable. he knew the parts of her no one else did, got her true emotions to shine through better than anyone else she knew. and he did it all so effortlessly, like it was something that was easy to do. like it was child's play.
and this wasn't a bad thing by any means, no matter what noah said about it. keeping up a wall was hard. ada didn't have a lot of people she could really call "friend" because quite frankly, most people bothered her. she demanded intelligence and thought and common sense and was so guarded that people didn't usually bother with her. but icarus bothered. he cared. and it was why she fell in love with him in the first place. because he understood. he fit perfectly into her world, seamlessly. he was a perfect fit, a match. and she was happy, no thrilled, to have him in her life again. she didn't give second chances easily - everyone knew it and it had taken time for icarus to break her down again. but they were building up much better. their relationship was going great all over again, no matter the distance. the only thing she needed then and there was to see him.
and then like some miracle he was there. she looked down to catch the time and looked up to see icarus and closed book that she was, she couldn't stop the smile that spread across her features. she rose as he set down his bags and as soon as his hands were free, she stepped forward to wrap her arms tight around him in a warm embrace. he was home, he was back, and it felt so nice to have him back that the small looks that were always bestowed on couples who were reuniting didn't even phase her. let them stare. hell, she was staring, noticing the small changes from the tanned skin to just the feeling of his body pressed against her own. she didn't care about other people. she could just focus on her boyfriend. "i have never," she said, grinning and pulling away from him slightly, "ever, ever, ever been so happy to see you before in my life." she emphasized her statement with a short peck on the lips. "ever."
