Delilah had fallen asleep in her room upstairs and there was a good chance that she would sleep through the whole night. Lately she had been waking up in the middle of the night from some bad dream. After she met Harley though things with her have begun to change with her, she seems happier in her own way and she talks about him non stop. Quinn couldn't help but notice a change in her that could only come from a father's influence. Although Delilah still didn't know that Harley was in fact her biological father. Quinn heard her phone going off in the kitchen and set down her book. Something in her body was telling her that something was wrong, it was one of those motherly instinct moments. She first ignored her phone and ran up to Delilah's bedroom. As she opened the door just slightly she could hear Del's soft breathing and pressed a hand to her chest, taking a deep breath and sighing before closing the door, leaving the door open just a few inches just in case Delilah called for her. Quinn padded downstairs and went into the kitchen, grabbing her phone off the counter she saw that she had a text from Harley.
'hey uh, i need your address. it's an emergency.'
Quinn's heart raced as she typed back her address, she was obviously going to worry about him. He was the father of her child, but then again he was also beginning to be more than that. He was beginning to be a friend to her too. At least Quinn liked to consider that. Quinn began pacing around her living room, her mind was going over the worst possible scenarios and it was causing her to panic even more. The one thing that she knew was that he was alive. And that made her feel a little better, but not much. What on earth could be the emergency?
Quinn heard a knock at the front door and rushed over to it. Not even bothering to look through the peep hole like she would normally. She un-did the locks and opened the door Quickly. At first she didn't recognize the bloodied mess that was at her door. The man stumbled into her and she grabbed onto him. As soon as the man's face came into the light she recognised that it was Harley. "Oh my god, Harley! what happened?!
|
" her voice was panicked as she held onto him. She shifted and closed the door, locking it behind her before supporting his weight on her and moving him over to the couch. kneeling next to him as she gently places her hands along his skin to check for broken bones. Her partial med-school training was kicking in and she was on panicked mother mode, her mind was racing. " Oh, i need to get some bandages or a towel or some painkillers or something!" She turned to stand and run to grab some things to take care of him. Exposing the rather large bruise on her shoulder that Kaiden had left on her. Earlier on the phone everything was completely fine. What had happened in the past hour or so to cause all of this with Harley? Quinn couldn't help but worry about him. Because of Delilah she had a bond with him that was stronger than anything. He was the father of her child, and no other man could take that spot but him. [/div][atrb=width,130]

[cs=2]

the way i move is like a full-on rainstorm and you're a house of cards. i'm the kind of reckless that should send you running, but you kinda know that you won't get far. and you stood there in front of me, just close enough to touch, close enough to hope you couldn't see what i was thinking of. drop everything now, meet me in the pouring rain, kiss me on the sidewalk, take away the pain,
'cause i see sparks fly whenever you smile
harley's night had been rough to say the least. rough, weird, unusual, just... not normal. it wasn't every night that he acted like such a prince charming, after all. it wasn't all the time that he wanted to be a knight in shining armor. however, tonight wasn't harley try to be either. he was trying to protect quinn and delilah, sure, but he wasn't trying to benefit from it. he wasn't trying to get quinn in bed because he had defended her honor, because that was surely a harley thing to do... but this wasn't what he was doing this time. he wanted to protect quinn and his child and he didn't care if he got any reward out of that. knowing that two girls that were now very important parts of harley's life was enough for him, as corny and cheesy as that might have sounded. honestly, though, he wouldn't have been able to sleep if he knew that delilah was in a dangerous enviroment and had to watch her mother be hit and abused. surely she knew, if she had known that he was the one giving her mom the 'boo boos.' there was no way she was lying, either. children usually didn't lie about things like that, especially when they were so little. they were young and naive and ususally didn't understand that idea yet. there was no way that delilah could have been lying about kaiden.
he had done something that he thought he would never do in his life- he had texted quinn and asked for help. her help. not in those exact words, but usually when someone asked someone for their address, that there was an emergency that caused him to need help from someone else, it meant that they wanted help. he didn't want to worry her too much with just a text message, which is why he didn't say that he had just beaten the shit out of her boyfriend- which would probably now be her ex-boyfriend, unless she really was an idiot and went back to him after this- and that he was in pain himself. afterall, the guy that was pounding on his head had done a little bit of damage. there was no blood or anything, but there was an excruciating throbbing sensation. his knuckles were bloody and raw and were now constantly stinging. so, yeah, he needed help.
addresses were never harley's forte. the facts that he could barely think thanks to the asshole that was giving his head a beating, he was shaking from all of the adrenaline and anger that was built up inside of him, and that connecticut was the farthest from familiar to him didn't help. however, he managed to get to her house in a little under twenty minutes. it was nice- large and elegant and something that looked expensive. it was impressive for a single mom, but he assumed that her parents would have tied in there somewhere. he pulled into the paved driveway and didn't mind the shitty parking job- after all, could you blame him? he was, well, not in his right mind for simpler terms. after he was out of the car, he stumbled out of the large escalade and had to steady himself when his feet touched the cement. aparently, he wasn't ready to walk again. his whole body felt weird- heavy and unnaturally tense, shaking like he was in an ice storm. he stumbled towards the door, using all of his strength to walk the couple of feet to the porch. eventually, he got there, though, and when he did, he rapped on the door, lightly surprisingly. the boy just couldn't find the strength to even knock on a door. he waited for a couple of short seconds before quinn appeared in front of him and before he knew it, the thin girl was supporting him, a man that weighed at least fifty or sixty pounds more than she did and was at least five inches taller than her. it would have been impressive, except his mind was spinning so badly he didn't really take note of it.
oh my god, harley! what happened?! she called and the sound of her voice sent a sharp pain throughout harley's head. he didn't do anything about it, though. he was there now and that's all that mattered to him in that moment. she lead him to the couch where she sat him down, kneeling to acess his wounds. then, she got up. oh, i need to get some bandages or a towel or some painkillers or something! she said, worry laced in her voice. as she turned, bruises were exposed, and a lot of them. a couple on both arms and one where her arm and back met, just under her shoulder. before she could go, he grabbed her hand to stop her from walking away. kaiden did that to you, didn't he? he said weakly, with the strength that he had mustered.

But it didn't start out that way. It started with them meeting at some formal event that her mother had dragged her to and Delilah had stayed home with her grandpa. He seemed like a fairly decent man, sophisticated, and charming as all hell. They danced and talked and eventually went out on a few dates. But Quinn hadn't realized what he was actually after. And that was her family's money. He had her so tightly wrapped around his finger that he could convince her of anything. And after everything that had happened with Harley she was fairly vulnerable when it came to men. And not long after they had been dating, fairly close to after they first had sex, he had started staying over almost every night. He would push her around sometimes and grab her a little too hard. But Quinn had never thought anything of it. He had her convinced that she was just being weak and couldn't handle his playing around. He would slap her sometimes when she would say something upsetting to him, but he would just say that he didn't mean to and she would forget it ever happened. The only time he had ever hit her with a closed fist was recently when he had found out from Delilah that she talked to a man named Harley at the park. Kaiden was more mad that Quinn tried to hide it than anything. Quinn had gotten Delilah to agree to go play in her room and lock the door behind her before Kaiden had grabbed her. His hands felt like a vice, pinching her skin and muscles against her bones. He yelled at her about talking to other men in the park and was even more furious that she had let Delilah talk to her father. He was jealous and it was obvious. Kaiden kept yelling about how Delilah was supposed to only see him as a father, not Harley. And that if Quinn ever spoke to him again that she would be sorry. Frankly after that she was terrified to even answer the call tonight. But as soon as she agreed calmly to him and turned to go make something for them all to have for dinner her punched her shoulder, it knocked her to the ground and he yelled at her more to make sure he got his point across.
Quinn was terrified as to what might happen to her if Kaiden came home and saw Harley on her couch. Harley was definitely in no position to defend her. She could barely process everything that was happening. This was Harley. her Harley. And he had come to her for help. After everything that had happened between them, well, lack there of. He had turned to her for help. After three years of no contact with this man Quinn couldn't help but look at him in a different light. Right now he was hurt and that made her hurt. Her mind raced as to why it had happened. She felt his hand grab hers, it was gentle but it still made her jump slightly. It was an instant reaction now caused by the abuse from Kaiden. What made matters worse about him was that Kaiden wasn't just physically abusive. But he was sexually as well. Quinn heard Harley speak, his voice was weak and his question shocked her. In her panicked state she had forgotten to put something on to cover the bruises from Harley, she was usually pretty careful to hide them. Though when she looked down at him, and looked into his eyes. Something inside her told her that she couldn't lie to him, not now and not ever. She looked down at the hand mark on her upper arm and nodded. She sighed and looked down at his shirt, he was covered in blood. "here...
|
" she said to him, she started pulling at his shirt, reaching behind his shoulders to gently help him lean forward enough to get his shirt off of him completely. She couldn't help but notice his toned stomach, and then she noticed the darkening bruise next to his ribs. " what on earth happened to you tonight, Harley?" her voice was shaky and worried. She touched the bruised rib gently and watched his expressions to see if he felt any major pain as she pressed down lightly, feeling around for any broken bones. harley could feel her jump at the way he had grabbed her hand. he imagined she was shocked. after all, it was bold of him. they hadn't seen each other in probably more than three years. there had been no contact between the two of them, either. they were practically strangers. while it was only a grab of her hand to keep her from going anywhere, he was holding her hand, nonetheless. he hadn't grabbed her wrist or her arm or the edges of her fingers- her hand. then again, he had already shown that he was bold with the way he had come to her for help. she was really the only person he actually knew in connecticut, other than the one or two music producers or an tv show host here and there, the few that were in connecticut, but he knew that none of them were willing to give the help that quinn was. then again, why had he been so confident that she wouldn't have pushed him away or sent him else where? why had he been so confident that was actually willing to come to his aid? all he could say was that he had a feeling that she would, because of the bond that they had. a bond that had only recently been come to the surface, but one that had always been there, nontheless. that's how he knew that she wouldn't send him away, tell him to find help somewhere else.
she didn't answer his question in words, though, but instead with a nod. he didn't push his question, however, or make it more complex that required a longer answer, one that wasn't just yes or no. instead, he let her proceed with what she needed to do to help him. here... she said, propping him forward as much as she needed to in order to get his apparent blood stained shirt from his torso. he let her and before she could leave, she noticed a large black bruise that kaiden had apparently given him when he was struggling to get up. he couldn't remember kaiden getting the upperhand once, though, so that had to be how he had gotten it. what on earth happened to you tonight, harley? the answer was easy, but was telling her? of course, now he knew that kaiden had been hitting her and hitting her badly, so he had a good excuse for beating up kaiden so badly- breaking his nose in one hard blow bad, two black eyes back, blood everywhere bad.
he had had his eyes close prior to her question, as she was taking off his shirt, but when he had gained back enough strength to use his voice, he opened them and made contact with hers. i uh... delilah. she told me at the park about, uh, kaiden, he said, offering a weak smile, but returning back to his sullen expression after he realized he didn't have enough will power to smile. and how he gives you boo boos, he came again, snorting a chuckle, the corners of his mouth twitching like he wanted to grin. and i don't know, i happened to be at that place and i heard someone say your name and then... i got mad and... i went and i punched him and... i think i broke his nose. i mean, at least it sounded like i did, and then i couldn't stop hitting him and... i think i broke a lot of his face, too... his words came out slurred, as if he was intoxicated, even though he clearly wasn't. but he didn't get a hit in, so... i don't know how that got there... he said, still slurred and still very drunk sounding. he glanced down towards the bruise, straining his neck to see as best as he could, then looked back at quinn. i, uh... i hope you're not... mad. how could she be, though? he offered a weak grin, though, just for good measure.

She had been trying so hard to keep everything that Kaiden did to her away from her baby girl's eyes, and the fact that she witnessed it made her heart break. She felt her heart beating as Harley continued speaking about how he beat the hell out of Kaiden and she held her breath. There was no one in the world that she knew that would stand up for her. Hell a small part of the reason she never left Kaiden was because she knew he wouldn't let her, and now she had Harley in her life, Harley was her escape from Kaiden's grasp. Thank god Kaiden never laid a hand on Delilah or he would probably be dead.
"i, uh... i hope you're not... mad." How on earth could she be mad at him, he had defended her and their daughter. He went out of his way to protect the two of them and didn't care that he got himself hurt in the process. Quinn bit her lip before leaning down and pressing her lips against Harley. She had no idea what on earth possessed her to kiss the man that had only recently entered her life again after three years of nothing. But she did. It was a kiss full of passion and emotions that Quinn didn't realize she had for him. Her eyes were watery and her hands trembled as she placed one on the couch and the other on his chest, she pulled away from the kiss and looked down "oh, i'm sorry.. i just..
|
" she managed, her voice cracked from the tears and emotions that were welling up inside her. He cared, after all these years she was finally beginning to see that he cares he might not have before but that was because he hadn't met his daughter. She was like an angel brought into their lives. And because of her things were starting to get better for all three of them. before he knew it, quinn was kissing him. it happened so fast, he barely had time to react. in fact, he didn't. the only reaction that he could possibly have was to kiss her back and he certainly did. she raised one of her hands and pressed it against his chest while the other remained on the couch for support. he didn't know what had made her decide that kissing him was a good idea. he wasn't saying that it wasn't, but he wasn't saying that it was either. he would have been almost positive that she would never even touch him sexually again, after the way things had been three, four years ago, when he got her pregnant, when she got herself pregnant, when they landed themselves into the mess they were in. after that, he doubted that she'd ever even want to look at him again, nonetheless let him see his daughter, even more, kiss him. however, she proved all of those beliefs wrong. she did kiss him, she did let him see his daughter, and she did look at him. she helped him, as well. she tended to his wounds and didn't make him leave when he showed up at her house, didn't send him off when he came to her, of all people, when he was in need of someone. hell, he went and beat the shit of her boyfriend. their relationship had grown so much in the past two days, it was unreal.
then, as if it was just a dream, it ended just as quick as it began. she pulled away from the kiss, pressing even more on his chest for support to keep herself up. i'm sorry... i just... then he saw the water building up in her eyes. why was she crying? had he done something to make her upset? had beating the shit out of her boyfriend made her cry? was that what was bothering her? was knowing that kaiden wasn't going to come back making her sad? unless... unless they were happy tears and if that was the case, that was a completely different story. maybe she was crying because she knew that man was out of her life and that harley had, in a way, replaced him. even though harley had done some pretty screwed up shit, like get her pregnant and bail on her just as fast, he wouldn't ever hurt her. he wouldn't yell, wouldn't throw her around, never push her, never make her do anything she didn't want to do and maybe she knew that harley was a better man, despite of what he did to her year ago when delilah was born. she looked down and with a weak gesture, he used his thumb and index finger of his left hand to raise her chin to his eye level. hey, hey, why are you crying? don't cry, it's okay, he murmured softly, moving the hand supporting her chin down her neck, her shoulder, her arm, and finally down to cup her waist for support of his own as he leaned forward more.
then... then he kissed her back, using the strength from his torso to raise his body forward, towards her. with the arm that wasn't already on her waist, he put it there. he snaked it around the back side of her thin torso and kept it there for additional support. with all of the strength he could muster, he pulled her closer to his own body. when in rome, right?

She could barely wrap her mind around the fact that she had let Harley back into her life. After all the hatred and pain she held against him it had all disappeared that day in the park when she saw the way he was with delilah. There was no way that this Harley that was sitting here with her, was the same man that had abandoned her so long ago. It was time for her to forget all the past and stop feeling on the what ifs and just enjoy everything that had come into her life. Especially Harley, without him she never would have had Delilah. And most teenagers would call it a burden and a mistake but Delilah honestly was the best thing in the world to ever happen. Because without her Quinn would have probably would have just been another girl that Harley had slept with on a tour. Ad she would probably be stuck with Kaiden and possibly lost her life somewhere through the violent relationship. But now. Now she had Harley. Who had miraculously come back into her life. He had come back into her life when she needed him the most.
When he spoke she couldn't help but smile through her tears. How could she be so lucky as to have him here with her right now? How could she be so lucky for harley to have freed her from kaidens violence instead of being an asshole rockstar that just wants to get out of this town and forget about everything. Quinn began connecting the dots and realized that Harley must have cared that very first day in the park. Or else he wouldn't have asked over the phone about Kaiden. And he wouldn't have gone to the bar and kicked the shit out of him. Quinn felt his hands run across her skin and closed her eyes. For some reason she was beginning to feel an emotion she hadn't felt in a really long time. She felt loved. When he leaned close and kissed her again she leaned closer. Not wanting him to put too much stress on his injuries. She brought one of her hands up to his cheek as she caressed it. There was nothing that could make this moment any better.
"mommy?!
|
" Quinn heard the soft call from upstairs and pulled away slowly from Harley. Keepin herself only a few inches from him. She tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear and smiled softly. " your daughter needs me... You should wash some of the blood off your hands okay? I don't want to worry her." Quinn took a deep breath and sighed before placing one last gentle kiss on his lips. She helped him sit up before she stood. " ill be right back okay?" she glanced at him once before turning to head upstairs. " hey baby. Did you have a bad dream?" she asked as she picked Delilah up and held her in her arms. " yeah..." Delilah said sleepily as Quinn began carrying her down the stairs. [/div][atrb=width,130]

[cs=2]

what the hell were the two of them thinking? harley had no idea and he was pretty sure that quinn didn't, either. usually someone showed their appreciation by saying thank you and if they wanted to be old fashion, they gave them their hankie or something lame like that. hadn't she seen shrek? a kiss... a kiss usually wasn't the way to go about thanking your knight in shining armor. usually a line of events would lead up to a kiss, but never right away- at least, not that harley coud recall. the thing that made this kiss so shocking, though, was not the it was a thank you, because when you thought about it, it was a justifiable kiss. the thing that made this kiss shocking was that in the past three years, harley thought that quinn absolutely despised him. he had believed that she hated him for bailing on her when she needed him most, when delilah needed her real father, and perhaps maybe that was the truth. perhaps, though, in the last couple of days, she changed her mind about him and that's why she was so quick and willing to kiss him. perhaps that's why she wasn't so disgusted and apauled when he responded to her kiss with another very passionate one. perhaps... no, indeed, things had changed between them and in only a matter of two or three days.
mommy?! a small, soft voice from up the stairs called out. without any warning, though, it all ended and harley was left wanting more from her. he lingered on her lips as she spoke. your daughter needs me... you should wash some of the blood off your hands, okay? i don't want to worry her, he smiled at the refrence to his daughter. just one week ago, he didn't have a daughter. he had a kid somewhere that had been created with his sperm. there was a kid that looked like him and probably was a daily reminder of the mistake that quinn made four years ago when she slept with him. now... now she was more than a reminder, more than just a kid. she planted another small kiss on his lips and harley had to control himself from pushing for more. i'll be right back, okay? then she was gone and harley was left by himself.
he assumed that delilah had had a nightmare or something like children usually had and that's why she had called for her mommy. harley couldn't help but imagine what life would have been like if he hadn't left, how it would have turned out if he had stuck around for her. she'd be calling for harley, not just quinn. a pained expression consumed his face as he lifted himself off of the couch, but not just from the lack of strength- from the previous thought as well. he made his way into the kitchen or at least what he thought was the kitchen. the boy ran his hands under cold water to get rid of the dried kaiden-blood, trying not to wince from the obvious stinging. he found some papertowels not too far away, dried his hands of the water, and tossed the paper in the garbage. instead of returning back to his original position at the couch, he walked to the edge of the stairs where quinn disappeared to. in a matter of minutes, he saw the two most important girls in his life descending down the stairs, quinn and delilah kennedy.
