SPENCER MAXIMUS HAYNES
GRADUATE, TWENTY-FOUR, GEEK, SWEET, QUIRKY, MATTHEW GRAY GUBLER
Born and raised on a ranch in Texas with a tough, army vet father and a sweet mother, you may expect Spencer to be the stereotypical Texas cowboy type. You couldn't be any further from the truth, despite his fathers attempts, Spence was never destined to be like his father, he's sweet and funny, was always a boy genius even after all of his injuries (including some pretty bad hits to the head) from breaking horses all of his life. These unfulfilled expectations drove a wedge between father and son, Spencer knew his father cared about him in his own, distant way but they rarely agreed on much or talked. Spencer was alway much closer to his mother, with much more in common with her soft nature and her need to please and keep the people around her happy.
There are many words you could use to describe the only son of the Haynes family, goofy, geeky, weird quirky, caring, gentleman and so many more but no matter what you say about him, it doesn't really phase he, he's never really cared what people thought of him, never changed who he was for anyone, he knows he's a nerd and he uses it to his advantage wherever he can.
At the beginning of middle school all of his 'quirkiness' used to get him bullied, he was an easy target, scrawny as hell, far too nice to stick up for himself and stuck out like a sore thumb. Despite his usual optimism, it did get to him though he played the part like it didn't and hid any evidence that it was happening from his family, he could do without his father getting pissed and giving him a lecture about how he needed to learn how to stick up for himself and the last thing he wanted was for his mom to worry about him. He also had an unspoken agreement with his younger sister, she knew it happened but didn't get involved and didn't let their parents hear even a hint of it. See, unlike Spence, his little sister was a social butterfly, top of the high school social chain, dating the quarterback and all of that typical crap, the two were, and still are polar opposites and have never really gotten alone, he sees her as a high maintenance drama queen, and she's just never understood Spence. So, life carried on this way until high school, that was when things flipped on their heads and Spence found his way into the 'cool crowd', not by anything he did, it was all thanks to his best friend since pre-school, he was nothing like Spence he was smooth, popular, charming, a real ladies man, was good at sports and all of that crap. Spencer became cool simply by association and though he still kept his chess team buddies, Spence was pretty much untouchable from freshman year.
From school, Spence went straight into university to study web design. Nothing of real importance happened to him between that time, he was surrounded by like minded people, stayed close to home so kept all of his old friends and kept his head level and graduated straight into his dream job at a pretty big company. He'd been happy where he was for a long time but it all got a little monotonous, so the second he got a chance to get away and take a job in another part of the country, he took it, packed his bags and left for some new experiences. He's now been in town for nearly 2 years now and has more than come out of his shell (not that he was ever really in one), settled in his job and new life though he does finds himself yearning for home everyone once in a while.

In recent weeks, Charlie had been so conflicted in her feelings. This confliction of feelings had began when Michael Newland had moved back into town, he had always just been a best friend to the blond before but since his return to town her feelings for him had been a whole lot different. Charlie had done her very best to subdue the feelings, shrug them off and generally pretend they weren't there for so many reasons, there was the fact that he was one of her best friends and relationships always ruined friendship, then there was the fact that she was a free spirit who had never lasted in a relationship for length of time longer than a few months. But the biggest reason of all was her very best friend Miss Alex Reid. The pare had been best friends since pre school, they were type of best friends that were inseparable, the ones who stuck together through thick and thin but Charlie had a feeling there was going to be a shift in their almost bomb proof friendship. See the main reason Charlie had been fighting her feelings for Mick so much were because of the implications it would have on her friendship. She knew more than anyone how much Alex had loved Micky and had been the one in the midst of it all when he broke her heart. She'd been the one to pull through for her best friend at all hours of the night with a giant tub of Ben and Jerry's ice cream and her collection of sappy movies and cheesy rom-coms, she was the who had collected what seemed like gallons of salty tears on the shoulders of her designer clothing, she was there for it all.
As if the blond hadn't felt guilty enough about just having feelings for her best friends ex, she had taken it to a whole new level on the day of the snow storm, after one too many glasses of wine, with her guard and her common sense down she'd gone ahead and done what she'd promised herself she never would. She'd made her feelings oh so very clear by kissing the said ex boyfriend. From there on it had been impossible to hide them away, especially when she'd found out that he felt the same way about her. In the beginning, they hadn't planned to keep it secret, Charlie had never kept anything from Alex, she wasn't good at keeping secrets, she got too excited and blurted them out. The plan had been to come out with it before anything else happened after the snow storm. Charlie was well prepared to be hated for who knows how long, she was prepared to have a drink thrown at her or something of the like and was defiantly prepared for the death glares and the silent treatment.
But then something terrible had happened, something way bigger than a little scandal. When Toby had flipped his car and landed himself in a coma, telling Alex about anything had gone straight out of the window. It had been near impossible to hide her happy from her best friend for those weeks, but she'd managed it without arousing any suspicion from her best friend. It probably helped that she had her mind on more important things. But now Toby was awake, had been for a little over a week and though there were some complications with his memory, he was going to be OK and he was out of the woods. Charlie and Mick and both agreed there had been enough time for them to spring the news on Alex. Well, when I say them, I mean Charlie. She was sure that the two of them telling Alex would make the situation 10 times worse than it was already going to be so she'd opted to face the Reid wrath on her own.
That was why she was sat in hers and Alex's favorite place to eat, the little bakery was mid way between their childhood homes and near their high school. It was the place they had always met up at before they went shopping in town or just where they'd come to have a catch up. These were all reasons Charlie had picked the place along side the fact that it was public and there was no hot beverages like coffee for her to get attacked with by her neurotic and dramatic friend when she heard the bad news.
