HISTORY It all started when a 45 year old Delilah Berry with her four children, finally decided to leave the U.S. She'd been trying to pluck up the courage to do so for a long time. Finally she'd packed up and there was only a few weeks left before she'd be leaving. Her friends arrived to take her out for one last amazing hang-out, worried that they wouldn't be seeing their friend again if she left. They took her to a coffee house. It was there that she met Rhod Garnsley. She was very reluctant to accept his offer of a date considering she had four children to think about. So instead she invited him over to talk with her and her friends. Within the hour her friends were telling her what a great guy he was and that she should go for it. Without thinking of the consequences, she went out with him that night. It was an amazing date and they ended up in bed together. Raymond was conceived that night.
The problem was that Delilah was leaving. She'd never had a real job at this point and was tired of living off her parents. She'd accepted a job in the UK and she had to go for it. She doubted there would be another opportunity like it. So she left. She didn't think she was pregnant since he had used precautions. By the time that she found out a few weeks later, she decided, perhaps irresponsibly, that to tell him was going to ruin her plans to stay in London and work. So she didn't tell him. Two years later, she heard that Garnsey had died through a smoking-related illness. So that was the story she always told Raymond and her other children, that Raymond's dad had died after their romance. Raymond's siblings and mother have spent their entire lives in London. However Raymond left for Hartford when he and his high school friends started a band.
They wanted to tour new places after graduation. They got as far as Hartford then they broke up. They were meant to see the world but their differences broke the band apart. It was devastating for Raymond. He tried a solo career for a while but his first single was a flop, so he gave up on music. They had tried to work things out at one point, even agreeing on a date to meet up. But there was too much to say and they just ended up arguing. Plus they had all moved on in their own lives, with one of the band members due to be a daddy the following week. So it wasn't the right time to get back together. Raymond attended the University of Hartford that September and made a lot of great friends. He ended up starting another band, this time with a girl in the band too, unlike the all-male style of his high school band. Their band was endorsed by local leisure centres and youth groups which really helped them get gigs.
He even started a casual relationship with the female member of the band. She was his first kiss and they occasionally went out on dates. He had no idea what to expect from the band nor from his relationship, but that was what made it exciting. He returned to London a few weeks after his band's first gig, surprised to find that his mother had fixed him up with one of her friend's daughters. He agreed to go only because his relationship with his band member was casual. Plus his date was wearing a very mesmerizing mini-dress. He elected to watch Jurassic Park on their date, but she never actually called again. And then when he laughed about what happened once the band met up again, he had a jealous bandmate to deal with. She started calling him all the time and asking where he'd been. He couldn't go anywhere without being questioned.
During this time he experimented a lot with different women. He was tired of the accusations and just wanted to meet people that were actually interested in hooking up rather than complaining 24/7. Eventually he left his bandmate for a girl studying at the university on foreign exchange which led to the break up of the band. His then girlfriend moved back to her home country and Ray graduated a year later. Having concentrated his whole life on music, he has no idea what he wants to do now.
LIKES music, cute girls, his car, dating, his guitar.
DISLIKES being nagged, being called 'cute' (it sounds condescending), thunderstorms, sweating, shopping.
FEARS
- that his mother will find out that he's unemployed,
- losing any more of his friends.
SECRETS he got expelled from two high schools for bad grades before he actually managed to graduate. Music and cars are the only things he pays any attention to.
STRENGTHS fixing cars, playing guitar, playing drums, organizing schedules, breaking up with girls.
WEAKNESSES can't handle when a woman tries to control him, has no compromise when he wants something done his way, can't decide what he wants to do with his life.
PERSONALITY In high school he was referred to as a 'band geek'. He loves music and can play a wide variety of instruments. As well as this, the passion he puts into it completely consumes him and can keep him busy for hours. He doesn't want to be all by himself anymore but he can't stop believing he can put music to better use by being alone and being able to focus on it. Relationships in his experience have got in the way of his music. He reads all the latest reports about piano tuning, hoping that he can fix his piano again so he can start playing that. He's pretty much mastered to a standard that he approves of the guitar and the drums. Other than the piano, he plays guitar, drums, clarinet and is learning the violin.
Aside from the passion for his music, he's running low on emotion. He has love for his family sure, but as far as friends are concerned if they're there then great. if not, he won't lose sleep over it. He doesn't worry too much, about anything. Maybe he might be provoked into curiosity but he very much doubts he'll ever cry over any woman, man, pet, anything. He's not heartless, just plain. He's sensitive when it comes to song-writing but toward people he can be very much the opposite. He doesn't worry about it because he loves music. The only important part of him is the part that helps him write music. He can write small experiences down and make songs about it. On Youtube he puts himself online singing. He gets into a lot of trouble for not being sensitive to people's feelings, or as sensitive as he should be. He doesn't try to get at people, he just hasn't felt much care for people.
He's very closed-minded about his future career. He's seen career counselors, he's spoken to teachers, his family. Nothing, repeat, nothing, will get in the way of his music career. He doesn't care about money or fame, he'd always give the money to charity and ignore the fame anyway. He just wants his music to be heard. He won't be stubborn about it purposely, he'd just nicely explain that music is the option for him. It's plain as chalk on a blackboard, he can't imagine himself doing anything else. He knows that this could be potentially life-damaging because of the instability of it but he's so dedicated and determined in his music that he really wants to believe that he can make it somebody.
She remigrated on tiptoe to the further end of the locker room so she couldn't hear Seth's wailing. The locker room felt like a surfacing jungle as several girls followed Lauren with interrogatory remarks while the rest of them stayed at the door to comment and whisper about what Seth was saying. The thoughts of an ended suicide of her social life migrated too, and was now located outside her integral suspicions. It was no longer about being popular as long as she was able to be away from Seth. Her growing American accent was withdrawn from her voice and instead became a neutral breathing exercise. Then, one particular girl came forth; Lauren knew her vaguely as Isabelle or Isabella or something like that. Anyway she took Lauren's hand and escorted her away from the gossip and closer toward the door.
Lauren didn't say a word, but her expression read of all the thoughts her capacity could've obtained via dataprobe. The door was the main diagonal of the room and Lauren was able to prove convincingly it was of wrong angle to walk through. Her father was still hoping she would accept the offer to move with him to Norway, having already got her a job as an actress at the Christiania theatre, so the fact that soon she couldn't physically go on a plane and take the offer would kill him inside. Even more so if Lauren didn't have the father of the child to be the doting husband that stayed in America with her while her dad tried talking to some footballer about some video game so her father could write some article.
Just as Lauren was about to step forward two socially-retarded emos came into the locker rooms with gym bags, as they pushed the door for a moment Lauren became aware her tear-stained desperation was written all over her face and so she knelt on the ground praying the door would snap shut again soon.
