She isn't someone that can be easily figured out. Her imagination is huge and sometimes that can leak out for everyone to see. She's always been thought a bit odd. It was obvious that the girl was very intelligent when she was younger. The way she held herself and spoke made it clear that she wasn't like the other children. She was often shunned because of that. Her mother liked that she was so different and that she was unashamed of who she was. She reminded the woman of Dancie's father, who died during a terrible storm when the girl was just an infant. Ms. Bevins wanted to protect her daughter from the cruel words of strangers. Dancie was home schooled starting at the time she was old enough to be. That might not have done anything to improve her social skills but Ms. Bevin didn't see any real problem with the girl's social skills. There was something wrong with the world if they couldn't accept a girl just for being observant, expressive and polite. It was right before the summer when Dancie met Gage and Gavin that Ms. Bevin's made the decision to place her daughter in public school. It was by pure coincident that the boys would be attending the same school after moving from Canada for their father's job. Starting public school at that age was a jarring experience. The girls were so cruel but Dancie was somehow able to ignore most of it. It was only when people would tease her best friend Gage that she would even respond. Then she could turn nasty. A very defensive little thing. She got sent home more than a few times. The only time she got emotional when someone teased her was when it was Gavin. The older boy had a terrible tendency to do just that too. It made it worse that he was so nice when it was just them or just them and Gage. He even sometimes seemed to return her crush. Until his friends or kids from his class would come around. Then he would instantly change. It was painful for the girl. She needed her friend Gage during that awkward stage (if you don't already consider her just all around awkward). She leaned on him a lot. It was during their time together that she could stop worrying about little things and let her imagination run wild. The two of them shared a lot of the same interests. Adventures, goblins and gold, all those sorts of things. It was probably because she subconsciously thought that by acknowledging Gage's feelings she would ruin the friendship. Who knows maybe it would have? But Dancie managed to block the realization from her mind. Now after all these years, the lose of her mother and the start of her adult life, Gage is still by her side. Gavin too, thought not as nobly. She's still oblivious to gage's feelings but it won't last long. FRIENDS: Dancie can start a conversation easily. It might be an odd start to a conversation but she can start it nonetheless. there could be a few people that find her intriguing. she's a good friend and definitely an excellent listener. And though her advice might come bluntly or in some weird metaphor...it's almost always the best advice. ENEMIES: There could for sure be a bunch of enemies. Some people won't be able to stand her strangeness. They might not like her because she's different. Or maybe just because Dancie can be rather annoying at times. |
