her internship wasn't perfect. sometimes, she didn't have all the answers during rounds. sometimes it was hard to diagnose a kid and nothing was harder than looking a child's parents in the eyes and letting them know that she had no idea what was wrong with them but that she was working on it. sometimes she had good news and sometimes she got bad news and while she was happy to say that none of her patients had actually died and were mainly just kids with the flu or the measles or chicken pox, she knew that once she moved up into her residency and found the field she was most specialized in, she was going to be seeing harder cases. and that thought didn't make her internship any easier. but it was a job, and though it was a long and often difficult job, it was still one that she took pride in having. honestly, it was a miracle that kendall wilson was going to have a job at all.
a lot of people thought that she wouldn't; hell for a while even her own family didn't believe in her and she didn't blame them. she was a wild child, still was a little wild by society's standards, and not exactly the most sane person to ever hit the streets. she had a reputation as big as the scenes that she liked to make, and very little of what was said about her was good. she slept around, she partied, she dabbled in drugs and drinking and every crazy thing on the list. she had her nude photo scandal, her pregnancy scare, her affair with a teacher, fellow student, someone else's boyfriend, someone else's girlfriend. she'd changed peoples' sexualities and threatened others with knives if they were to go near her again. the fact of the matter was, kendall didn't have the most solid past or the most solid head on her shoulders and if most people knew that she as a doctor was in fact the same kendall wilson people had heard so much about, she was sure she'd be out of a job in a heartbeat.
but thankfully, she had good grades, a strong will, and was good at what she did (not to mention, a handy way of getting rid of most of her criminal background by either not getting caught or playing nice with a few officers). she had a head for diagnosis, always had her paperwork done on time, and even her case studies were worked on more than anything else. she still had her focus on her family, on her growing relationship with barbra, on keeping everyone around her in line. but that didn't mean she was any less focused on her duty and her job as a doctor to ensure that the kids she saw and the patients she covered for other doctors were kept healthy, their paperwork all organized, and her reports as professional and pristine as anything else she could have done. she made friends with nurses and orderlies, was well-liked among her fellow doctors, and had even befriended a nice ultrasound tech who was always willing to pull some strings for her - something about liking her spark.
so while her internship had its problems, it also had its perks and it was what made kendall love her job so much. for the people she got to help, the people she got to befriend, those whose shifts she was starting to see coincided with hers more often than not. maybe she couldn't have her usual fun now that she had a pretty little brunette wrapped around her finger (and more than just that whenever they were alone) but she could still make friends. something that kendall was more than apt to do. however, some days, she just needed to be left alone and this was one of them. she was taking her lunch break but instead of staying in the cafeteria and eating, she just grabbed a shake jason had made for her that morning and headed outside to sit on a bench outside the hospital. she needed the fresh air, away from the hospital feel and hospital smell. maybe if she was lucky someone would walk by and offer her a smoke though she doubted that with the scrubs she had on. she was supposed to be an example or whatever. she didn't care. it wasn't the people she was interested; it was just the air - a little time to herself before she dedicated herself to going back inside.
