[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: #fdfdfd, border: #fdfdfd 5px solid; width: 530px; height: 360px;] member group graduate full name dexter nathaniel fitzgerald alias dex nicknames dex date of birth april twenty-six, 1984 age twenty eight occupation teaches at university of hartford sexual orientation heterosexual playby patrick j adams dex was born and raised in the upper east side of manhattan. he belonged to a wealthy, old-money family, meaning dexter never knew a simple life as a child. he never knew what it was like to be a normal kid, with normal parents, with a normal-sized house and a normal amount of luxuries. he was a spoiled rotten brat, in simple terms, and was rarely scolded or punished, if ever. of course, that could have been caused by the absence of his parents in his life or for the fact that his parents were blind to his actions. either way, as a child, he was taught that he could get away with treating people wrong, misbehaving, and being disrespectful towards anyone and almost everyone. his father, arthur fitzgerald, inherited a law firm from his father when dexter's grandpa died, along with all of the family wealth. at the age of twenty one, arthur married his longtime girlfriend, marilyn fitzgerald, and two years after that, little dexter nathaniel fitzgerald was brought into the world. he was their joy, he lightened up their days, he even brightened their nights, but he wasn't enough. they wanted another child and when dexter turned eight, after seven years of trying, marilyn was declared pregnant. however, the pregnancy took a turn for the worst. when it came time for her to go into labor, the doctor's discovered that there was no heartbeat inside of her womb. dexter's brother was born still-born and dexter's parents, grandparents, and the rest of his relatives were devastated. after the death of his little brother, dexter's family wasn't the same. his mother went into depression and his father became constantly exhausted and tired, incredibly irritable and always agitated. both of his parents were almost nonexistent in his life. as a replacement for his parent's love, his grandparents showered him with all kinds of gifts- toys, vacations, everything a child dexter's age could want. after months of this kind of attention, dexter grew used to it. as he got older, though, dexter drifted closer to a scene that he wasn't used to, but he wanted to be apart of. musicians, stoners, and skaters, people apart of a different crowd that he was raised in. there was no adult figure in his life to stop him from going down the 'wrong' path, either, because even eight years later, his mother was still depressed, his father still preoccupied by trying to snap marilyn out of her state of sadness. his grandparents, on his mother's side, had both passed away when he was thirteen and his father's mother had died years before as well. aunts and uncles all lived states away. there was literally no one to turn him away from the path he was going down. of course, that path wasn't necessarily bad. he had picked up the habit of smoking cigarettes and a little weed every here and there, but nothing too extreme. he was no addict, either, so there really wasn't any problem. he didn't drink, either. beer wasn't ever tempting to him nor did it look too appetizing. the first time he'd ever down any kind of alcoholic substance until the actual legal age of twenty one. however, sex... sex was a very appealing activity to dexter, so at the age of seventeen, he slept with a girl for the first time. he wasn't an addict to sex either, but it was something he enjoyed doing maybe a little too much- meaning he'd do it almost every night, whether it be a girl he'd already been with or someone new, he didn't care. as long as he got that fix. he wasn't a complete hoodlum, though. he graduated high school and with honors, too! he figured that if he wasn't going to be successful at anything else, he should at least be successful when it comes to his education. his parents weren't completely absent and took time to acknowledge his excellence, agreeing to pay for his college education. he attended new york university and much of his time was spent at the nyu institute of fine arts. it only made sense, as he had wanted to be an art major since the age of sixteen. it didn't please his parents all too much, but they eventually got over it after not too long. besides, dexter used the 'you were never there' line which wasn't just an excuse- it was the truth. something that had also come out of college was the reduction of his habits. he had stopped having sex almost completely, only got high when he really needed to, and cut cigarettes altogether. it was all thanks to a girl- named stella- that he met in his first year of college, when he was eighteen. she was a freshman in college, also, and was attending university majoring in the same subject as he was. they clicked immediately and although she had come from an extremely controversial and christian family, she had accepted him for who he was, although that dexter that smoked and was practically addicted to sex soon disappeared, thanks to her. they started dating their second year of college, and by their third year, they were engaged to be married. they both graduated college at twenty one. she took a year off before graduate school to prepare for a future pregnancy, while he continued to go for a doctorate. when they were twenty three years old, they got married. only three months after they had said their 'i do's' stella was discovered to be pregnant with their child. nine months later, stella gave birth to their son. nine months later, stella also died, during labor of their child. apparently, it was a amniotic fluid embolism, a complication that one in an eight thousand to eight hundred thousand chance of happening. their son survived, but stella had no chance. however, for a moment, dexter thought he was going to be alone completely- no wife nor a child. rex, what the couple had decided to name their child before they were even engaged, was rushed to NICU. dexter remained in new york for the rest of his education, which he was practically forced to continue by his parent-in-laws. after stella passed away, dex felt incomplete. he felt like there was something missing, like living without stella was wrong and for the first two years following stella's death, dexter knew what his mother had felt like. he completed his doctorate four years after he graduated and even though he had got an offer for a job directly after graduated, he didn't take it. instead, he made the choice to take the following year off to spent time with rex, who had been practically raised for the first years of his life by stella's mom and dad, while dex finished college like they wanted him to. they were pleased to here him want to spend time with rex and they all agreed one year was plenty of time. however, that one year turned into three. after those three years of aiding in the raising of his child, stella's parents and dexter agreed that it was time for dexter to go back to work, which he did. he took up on offer that he had gotten when he graduated that was apparently still open. the only problem was that it meant moving, however the good part was that it was only a couple hours away from new york city. that's how he ended up in hartford, connecticut. he had moved out to hartford earlier than his son and stella's parents, who had decided to stay in new york until august, when the job would officially begin. as for dexter's parents, he hasn't talked to them in years and stella's parents are better parents to him than his own. dexter is still heartbroken over the loss of stella and some nights, even spiteful of his son. |
