He'd been on probably thousands of dates before. He'd been with many men before this moment, and yet, he was nervous about this date. He was worried about doing something wrong, he was worried about saying something wrong, or maybe that what he'd decided to do would end up being something that Tristan wouldn't like. Fuck, he should've asked Babs about this whole thing before he'd gone and set up the whole date. He really should've, but he wanted to know that he could do it on his own without his best friend holding his hand. Josh wanted to know that he could do right by Tristan without needing to get Babs to approve of everything.
Besides if he had gone over what he had planned for the date with his best girl he knew that he would probably be met with a lot of irritated looks. And head shakes. And sighs. And everything that made Barba Helen, Barbra Helen, but also one of the most annoying women known to man. If only because nothing was ever good enough for Babs. She was a perfectionist in a way that he'd never met before or since meeting the girl, and he really didn't need to deal with that. He knew that she would end up forcing him to spill all the details when the time came anyway. For the time being, he would just suck it up and hope that he was doing this right.
Dates normally weren't such a difficult thing for Josh to plan. After all, he had money, he was charming, he knew how to wine and dine someone. Tristan wasn't just any someone though. It wasn't as simple as going out and grabbing a drink. Or even buying an expensive bottle of wine while they were out to dinner. It was, well, Tristan was Mormon, which really cut out at least fifty percent of the things that he was used to doing on a date. There would be no consumption of alcohol. No unwise decisions by the end of the night or taking things too fast. This was just so damn different than anything he'd ever had to deal with before. For a brief moment he'd thought about talking to Noah about it, but that would simply end in Noah laughing at him and telling him that's what he got for dating a Mormon or some shit like that.
In the end he'd figured it out. A simple date, something that could be fun, something that wouldn't end with him being so sexually frustrated that he could scream. Put put golf. That was innocent enough wasn't it? And hell, it was fun. It was something that Joshua himself hadn't done for years and he even found himself getting a bit excited at the thought of going out and doing something that was seemingly childish. He could only hope that Tristan would be alright with it. He would figure out where they'd go to eat when the time came.
There was a bit of a skip in his step as he made his way towards Tristan's front door, and the smile on his face was all too charming. A dozen yellow roses were held in on hand as the other tattooed fist rapped on the door. Nothing too harsh, nothing too gentle, just, a good knock that he was sure Tristan could hear. The butterflies in his stomach were starting again, and his nerves were getting the best of him. How this boy was having such an effect on him he had no idea, but he was. And he could only hope that it was some kind of omen for what was to be their relationship. Something different, something exciting, something that both of them would be taking steps in together. Tristan was new, he was different, he was everything that Joshua had never dated before, and because of all of that, Josh felt like he couldn't be more perfect. The man ran fingers through his hair before shifting weight from one foot to the other. Now all he needed to wait for was for that door to open, then hopefully he wouldn't feel like such a ball of nerves. | [atrb=width,100] words ,

near to you you and i have something different, and i'm enjoying it, cautiously. i'm battle scarred, i am working oh so hard to get back to who i used to be. he's disappearing, fading, suddenly. i'm so close to being yours, won't you stay with me... please?
tristan was going on a date. a real date. not just something he agreed to because he felt too bad for the poor soul who had finally muzzled up enough courage to ask him and not something that kendall or barbra had (directly) set him up on, or at least even if it was, he wasn't going to give them credit for it by a long shot. but a real date. something that he was asked to go on and he agreed to because he actually liked the guy. he actually thought that he was sweet and charming and attractive and just an overall good person, even if he was still waiting on barbra to hear what that "but" was. because if he was being honest, she hadn't really told him anything, just basically made him sit there and tell her how amazing she was for being able to find his perfect fit without ever getting josh and tristan near one another beforehand.
though he supposed "perfect fit" was a bit of an overstatement because if he was being honest, his perfect fit included such essential things as being mormon and looking a hell of a lot like john stamos, neither of which josh really met and in addition to that, tristan really didn't know anything at all about him when it came to other things like his moral code and what he was willing to put up with when it came to tristan's own little quirks. but still, he had to give barbra credit for finding someone that he, she, and kendall all agreed on since out of all the dates he had gone on since meeting the pair of them, this was the only time that this had happened. leave it to babs, though - honestly he was beginning to learn that doubting her was just about the stupidest mistake that any person could make. he pitied the fool that tried to doubt barbra helen stein.
but he couldn't focus on babs that night. how could he when he had something so essential as a date? it was strange; he had almost forgotten that dates could be something exciting, something that could make you feel giddy and nervous and happy all at once while still sending you into overdrive to prepare for. he had so much to take into consideration, like what to wear and how much was too much and what josh might have in store for them that night and then not to mention the fact that he was wondering if they would have fun, if this was going to be the only date if there would be more to follow, how casual it really was, and things that it was probably too early to be freaking out about anyway. but that was tristan - always worrying about how things were going to work out before they even got to that point. but at least he worried with a smile because if he had to be worried about anything, he was glad it was this. because it means he was given the chance to think about it in the first place.
and he was optimistic for that. because it was one thing that josh was someone that he was getting to be rather fond of. it was another completely that the affection seemed to be mutual, something completely in its own right that josh had asked him out to dinner. that was something that they couldn't always guarantee, though he supposed if he was friends with barbra, she would account for josh's tastes as well as tristan's which was probably why it had taken so long for her to come to the conclusion that the two just had to meet. so if anything, he remained positive about the night and tried to dress himself appropriately for the occasion. he tried for something that looked nice but wasn't too much, something that he would normally wear but that still looked like he put some effort into his appearance for josh. because honestly, he had. far more time and effort than he would have liked, seeing as he went through and changed his outfit and redid his hair so many times that he was beginning to feel like...well, a girl.
but he was able to calm down soon enough, and he was just sipping on some tea (decaffeinated) when he heard the quiet knock on his door. he set his mug to the side (either he'd get it later that night to clean or whatever maid service his dad was getting sent over would take care of it while he was gone if she bothered to show up at all) and tried not to run to the door, taking his steps at a leisurely pace to try and time it so he didn't seem too eager or too uninterested. but again, he was probably just overthinking things. he wasn't expecting, though, that when he opened the door josh would be standing there with roses - yellow roses at that - looking so dang cute that it was a miracle he didn't drop dead. he leaned slightly against the doorframe, taking in josh's appearance before saying, "hey," a little embarrassed at the breathlessness of his tone. then he added, "they're beautiful," with a fond smile, his heart skipping beats in his chest. he had brought him flowers.

s h o u ld i g i v e u p o r s h o u l d i just keep chasing pavements even though it
[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,10,true][atrb=style,background-image: url('http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g79/Juliart/background_black.jpg');,true][cs=2] L E A D S T O N O W H E R E | [atrb=width,240] So here he was, Joshua Nurick, once upon a time man whore, work-a-holic, jew, and doctor to be, going on a date with the last person in the world that he'd ever pictured himself dating. Not that it was really Tristan himself that he never could've pictured himself dating. Tristan was sweet, he was handsome, he was a great human being as far as Josh could tell, and most of all he was Babs approved. And for anyone who had been accepted into that small heart of hers, they knew that was the number one thing on their list of things necessary for someone that they dated. Joshua was no exception, though, he had a feeling that she had always been a bit stricter when it came to who he chose for the little Mormon.
And it was that reason that Josh couldn't believe he was doing this. Dating a Mormon was going to be a complete contrast to what he had done since he'd found out that he was very much so gay. Hell meeting a gay Mormon in and of itself was some kind of miracle and Josh had been half tempted to play the lottery almost sure that he would end up winning after meeting Tristan. Because, well, there was a part of him that didn't quite believe Babs when she had told him about Tristan. Part of him that was just all too sure that he had to be some kind of Jack Mormon. But as far as the man could tell, Tristan was the real thing.
Part of him felt like maybe he was going into this for the wrong reasons. Just curious just how strong the man's morals were. Just how much he could be pushed before breaking. But then, all it took was to look at Tristan's face and he knew, that it didn't matter. Tristan being a Mormon didn't matter, the fact that if Josh did indeed date him, become his boyfriend, all those sorts of things, that he would be going without sex for a good long while. Somehow, when he looked at the other boy, though, he knew that he was going to be worth it. Like some sign from God telling him that this one, was worth all of the things he would have to go through. That Tristan was the real deal and brought into his life for a reason.
There was no way that he was going to treat this like a game like he'd done so many times before with boys that knew they were gay but had yet to experience what being gay was really about. Because Tristan, he was special, and no amount of Cervantes snide remarks could shy him away from this. He'd never really understood what people were talking about when they said that when you meet someone worth your wile you just knew, that was until he'd met Tristan.
As he stood there on his door step the nerves were bubbling in his stomach. Then he heard footsteps, and then the door was opened and he was able to rest those blues of his on Tristan's face again. So young, so innocent, but so breath taking all at the same time. This boy in front of him really was some kind of wonder. And the way that he reacted to the flowers only made Josh more sure that he'd made a good decision with those. The breathy sound to the 'hey' was all that he needed to know that he had most certainly hit the nail on the head with this one. "Hey back," he spoke his tone soft and a lazy kind of smile on his lips.
He then held the flowers out for Tristan to take, the smile widening if only a bit. "I'm glad that you like them. You should probably put them in water though before we leave. I wouldn't want them to wilt," he suggested, though made no step to enter the other boy's home. At least not until he was invited. Joshua, after all, had been raised with more manners than most men his age. | [atrb=width,100] words ,

josh was really something special. honestly, he was; tristan could see why barbra was friends with him, why she had called him to bring to him. because tristan had never met someone who was so kind and charming off the bat - at least not someone who was like that of their own free will. his religion was filled to the brim with people who were kind and courteous but it was out of a sense of duty. very few were actually so kind and were actually pretty judgmental beneath it all. there was no place in the world filled with more gossip than a mormon temple, and that was the truth. they were always up in everyone else's business, very nosy, and though tristan was guilty of getting wrapped up in it himself, he was generally one of the more genuine people. josh, though, didn't have to worry about coming from a religion where kindness was a requirement for heavenly access. josh was just genuinely sweet, a kind soul. he was something else. something incredible.
and he didn't feel it too early to say. he was generally decent at picking up vibes from people. though josh had the potential to just be a very good liar and a very good actor (which, with his close friendship to barbra and noah, he wouldn't actually doubt) he didn't feel that babs would set him up with someone like that. barbra helen was someone who looked out for him and though babs had a few questionable friends and was dating someone who in her own right was questionable when it came to sanity alone, she would never ever send him out on a date with someone that she didn't trust one hundred percent to be good for him. he knew that for a fact. so if josh seemed like a good guy, it had to be because he was genuinely a good guy, not because he wanted something. barbra wasn't someone who would put tristan in a compromising position. it was part of why he usually just agreed to go out with someone if she gave even the slightest indication that they could be okay by her standards. because barbra standards were impossible to meet, but those who took longer for her to say 'no' to tended to be at least somewhat decent.
and josh? well josh was pre-certified, all nice and prettily wrapped with a barbra stamp of approval on his forehead. and that had to say something for his character since barbra warded off men who even so much as looked at tristan in a way that she thought could be threatening to his good old fashioned mormon ideals. if josh had managed to pass through her careful evaluation, then he was someone that tristan knew was worth writing home about. even if in this case, no one in his family would really care except for his father and there was no need to write him. he'd just tell him when he got back from wherever the heck he was traveling then and there. because he really hoped josh would last that long. he really hoped for things to work out between the pair of them. because josh was handsome and he was sweet and he was funny. and he had brought him flowers.
tristan had honestly never had anything like that happen to him before. ever. guys had been sweet to him, guys had been nice, guys had been just genuinely good people, but he'd never gotten flowers. it was just a gesture that most people didn't stop to think that he might want - heck, it was a gesture that tristan didn't even know he wanted until it actually happened and melted his dear little heart. he reached out to take the flowers from josh, admiring them for a second before grinning widely and saying, "yeah, yeah, definitely. i should have a vase just...somewhere around here." he stepped back into his apartment, his grin widening slightly as he looked back at josh. "come in, come in, though, we don't need you waiting out in the cold. how rude would that be of me?"

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,10,true][atrb=style,background-image: url('http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g79/Juliart/background_black.jpg');,true][cs=2] L E A D S T O N O W H E R E | [atrb=width,240] dating was an easy enough thing for a man who was used to going on dates with people of nature similar to himself and Barbra, and Noah. Go out for a dinner, some drinks, and then end up at one of their places to do things that he knew he wouldn’t be getting out of Tristan anytime soon if ever. He didn’t expect it out of Tristan either. Hell, he was expecting to only kiss him on the cheek when the night was over instead of kissing him in a more mature way than was fitting for this situation. Because this was the first date. And Tristan was not like the other boys that Joshua had ever dated. He was pure, in a way that wasn’t pretentious, he was sweet, in a way that was genuine, and really, he deserved so much more than a typical Joshua Nurick date. It made figuring out what to do on the date so much more of a challenge. In a society where drinking was such a norm, having a date that was innocent was not something that Josh was prepared for. And really, he’d thought that he had been prepared for anything in the world. Apparently he wasn’t, because he wasn’t prepared for Tristan, nor was he prepared for how much he would like him.
So he had started with something simple, he had started with flowers. Not something that he could say in all honesty that he had ever done but it was a sweet gesture. One that he felt Tristan was deserving of, so he had done it. No matter how strange it was for him to plan something that innocent with someone. Tristan was a challenge, but he as so much more than that, because he actually liked him. He actually was enjoying being around him, and talking to him, and he genuinely wanted to get to know him better. And not just as some boy he could be friends with, or a boy that he could sleep with, but as a potential boyfriend. He was signing up for a lot starting something with someone who was so different from himself, but he wanted it. He wanted something real, and nothing in his romantic history had been real. He felt like Tristan was a piece of reality that he might have some kind of luck with.
He was leaning on the door frame with that charming smile on his lips as his eyes stayed on Tristan’s face, that was of course after the initial once over just because the outfit that he was wearing was great. If there was one thing that he could give to Tristan it was that he knew how to dress himself. Something that he had noticed the first time that he had met the boy. Tonight only further proved that he had great fashion sense. Something that quite possibly caused his smile to widen a bit more than it had been sitting on his sharp features. “I don’t think that you have a rude bone in your body Tristan,” he spoke in kind tones before making his way into the apartment.
Those light eyes of his scanned around the place with a look of approval on his features. Just the kind of home he would expect the other man to have, and really not all that dissimilar from his own. With a hand in his pocket he wandered around the apartment looking things over but not moving outside of the common area. The last thing that he would want to do is invade his privacy by going back into the bedroom or anything like that. “This is a nice place that you have here,” he commented and then felt something in his pocket. “Oh, here’s some crushed up asprin to put in the water to make the flowers last longer,” he said before handing the little baggy to him.
