With a groan, he fumbled on his bedside cabinet until he managed to uncurl his fingers properly and hit the button that shut it up. He lay there for a while, having the same debate that he did every other time his alarm clock went off: whether or not to wake up. He didn't think that he had work that day, and he had no plans. What was the point in waking up if there was nothing for him to do?
After a good ten minutes of this debate, and his mind going blank once more as if to fall asleep, he snapped his eyes open. No, he wouldn't fall asleep. He could have a productive day of cleaning and getting his stuff organized. His apartment certainly needed it. He stretched his arms and sat up, swinging his legs over the side of the bed and walking over to his shower in a rather zombie-like fashion. The mere prospect of the coming hours made him want to jump straight back into that bed again. If only he were Harry Potter, then he could use magic to clean everything up.
It usually took Leaf about an hour to get ready in the mornings, but this morning seemed to take him much longer. He was very tired, and hung over. It took a lot of his strength to actually stay awake. Furthermore, he looked at the time on the digital clock in his kitchen, and saw that it was past two in the afternoon. He couldn't even remember what time he'd got in the night before. He could barely remember where he'd gone or who he was with. That was a good sign, clearly. It meant that the night had been wild and he'd had a good time. He was used to this feeling.
He cooked himself some bacon, since that was the only thing available in his fridge at the time, and stared into the mirror as he ate it. He shook his hair a bit so that it became more messy-looking, and opened his mouth so that he could examine the gap in his teeth as he so frequently did. He didn't mind the gap much. In fact, he felt that it made him more original, but he could get too conscious of it at times. It had certainly been the focus of many bad jokes in the past. There had been a lot of jokes about him in his lifetime, none of which has ever affected him very much. He was strong and had a very hard outer shell. It took a lot to truly offend him.
Looking at the reflection of his apartment in the mirror, he shook his head and frowned. There was absolutely no way that he was going to clean all of that on his own. He never cleaned. Even with help, it was unlikely that he'd get anything done. People just distracted him, so it'd probably take even longer. Even so, maybe he could call somebody and ask them to help out. Failing that, they could just hang out. He could surely survive a few more days with a messy apartment, and then he could hire a maid or something, even though he didn't have the money at that time.
Stacking his plate on top of the pile of dirty plates waiting to be washed and adding to the mess, he pulled his phone out and scrolled through the contacts. He wasn't sure who to text. He could ask one of the usual lot, but that was boring. He wanted some change. Leaf certainly wasn't in the mood to have a hot guy over. That always lead to bad places, and although he enjoyed male attention, then was not the time. He had a job to do, and he was going to do whatever it took to get it done.
Janie. He stopped scrolling when he came to her name. He hadn't seen her in a while. She was a sweet girl. Always there if he wanted a chat, and she seemed the type that'd be willing to help out a friend in need. Even if she wouldn't clean his house for him, she'd surely pop over for a chat and watch a movie with him. At least then he wouldn't be alone and bored enough to rip his eyeballs out.
hun, come to my place pronto. it's an emergency xxx
That text would surely suffice. Hopefully she wouldn't take it in the wrong way. It did sound a little serious given that he was just asking her to do her job as a woman and get a mop and bucket out.
Leaf picked up a pair of burgundy skinny jeans and a loose-fitting grey t shit form the floor and threw them on so that she wasn't greeted by him in his underwear. That was not something that Janie needed to see. He sat down on his sofa and turned his tv on, planning on watching the only crap that was on until she arrived. That was, if she arrived. She could always text back saying no. In which case, he'd simply have to ask another.

all at once it leaves you breathless
Early to rise, Janie Westmoreland had been awake and lively since around six that morning, sitting near her window in her small apartment. Originally, she had aimed to watch the sunrise. Sometimes, she was so cliche that it hurt. But Janie didn't mind. She was happy in her home with her warm hot cocoa. Her only issue was plans for the day. She had no classes this morning. But she did have some photography work to get done so maybe she would go with that?
The small bond shook her head lightly. She did love her photography but it was a cold, winter day and with the sky's change from the brilliant pink of the morning sun rising, the the overcast grey of the cold winter, Janie couldn't find anything in her mind worth photographing.
Making her small steps towards her old kitchen, Janie boggled her mind for possible things to do. She didn't need any groceries (unfortunately) and her mother was going to busy doing yoga for a few hours --a hobby she had picked up to relieve the stress of Janie not being around-- so she couldn't converse with her. The only thing she saw fit to do was at least dress herself for the day until something presented itself. So that was exactly what she did. Setting her mug in the sink, Janie she the old fleece blanket that had been draped around her shoulders and made her way to her room.
Her clothes were all neatly hung in her closet and had even been color coded (something she was very meticulous about). It took a moment of deciding but she finally opted for the soft pink dress on the righter side of her closet and a pair of cream colored leggings to go underneath. A small smile slipped onto her pink lips a she discarded the t-shirt she had been wearing as a night shirt and slipped the dress over her head, shimmying it down her thin body. She pulled the stocking up her legs and proceeded to scan her closet for a pair of shoes to top the outfit off with. That took not too long and before long she was slipping her little feet inside of them and grabbing a cream colored cardigan to slip over her shoulders as well. Topped off with a pink ribbon in her hair and two pieces of jewelry and Janie felt accomplished with her look for the day, It had all the practicality and girliness that she adored and it made her feel sort of pretty too, though that part was a bit less significant.
After her makeup was taken care of, she left the back of her apartment and went to find her phone to see who she might have been able to enjoy her day with. However, it looked as though someone had already beat the small blond to the punch. Brightly, her phone flashed an alert of a new text message from Leaf. Her smile resurfaced as she opened the message and checked how long ago it had been sent. Ten minutes ago.
Her light eyes scanned over the words on the screen and quickly her smile fell. An emergency? Was he in some sort of trouble? Janie was going into her spazzier mode now as thoughts entered her head of what possible horrors her friend could have been facing. It even made sense for him to text her rather than risking more danger to himself by making a phone call. Hurriedly, Janie grabbed her keys and bolted out of the door, speeding to his apartment to save him from whatever impending dangers might have been around. Once she made it to his door, she couldn't knock fast enough. Her knuckles rapped quickly on the wooden frame and though in reality, Leaf was perfectly fine other than being a bit tired, Janie was now fully convinced that something terrible was going to happen.
Oh, how her imagination could make a range of mountains from nothing but a underdeveloped anthill. |

w e a r e n o t y o u r l o v e r s we are not your friends, we are just sinners, and we're
[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,10,true][atrb=style,background-image: url('http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g79/Juliart/background_black.jpg');,true][cs=2] C O N D E M N E D T O | [atrb=width,240] Leaf flicked through the channels. Nothing good was on. She was taking longer than he'd expected. Granted, it had been about a minute, but that was a long time in his books. It wasn't even possible for her to get to his apartment in a minute, but he'd expected her to at least know teleportation or have superspeed or something. Technology was so good that he didn't doubt that somebody had discovered one and he hadn't realized.
Unfortunately, his expectations of the human mind were a little high, and nobody had managed to invent either of those things yet. She'd either be traveling by foot, car, bike, or whatever other form of transportation there was. Personally, Leaf was a fan of traveling by foot. There were no costs for petrol, no annoying people to sit by, no awkward drivers to talk to, and the chance of getting drenched from riding through a puddle was much lower. If cars were free, he'd go by car, but he only worked at Starbucks, how was he expected to afford to drive around the place and still afford food and clothes? Not only that, but he was one of the few people that actually payed for his music, and CDs were bloody expensive. He was pretty sure that Janie had more money than him. Maybe she'd drive. Could she even drive? How old was she? He'd forgotten. He always forgot about age. It was probably because he cared so little for how old a person was. Well, no, it was just because he had awful memory and would probably forget his own age if it weren't for the fact somebody reminded him of his birthday once a year.
He sat, staring at the screen of his television. Pictures were playing, but he was hardly paying attention. There were a couple of tigers running around with a gazelle or something in their mouths. Why would he care about animals? Honestly, why? How did people find it entertaining? The picture changed to some weird hopping thing that appeared to be attacking snakes. He had no idea what the animal was, but it was hilarious, and suddenly he was filled with a new light and understood why people watched animal channels.
There was a fast, sharp tap on the door. He pressed the 'off' button on his remote, and, still laughing at the animal that he did not know to be a honey badger, slid the lock open and pulled the door open. Janie had finally arrived. He put a hand on her shoulders as though she needed to be guided into his home and couldn't find her own way in.
"Hey, Janie. You know I love you for coming." |
[/b] He turned to look at his room, assessing the mess in his mind. All of the rooms in his house were clearly in view from the small corridor-like area by his door. It was a very small apartment. Straight ahead was the lounge area. Very messy. Apparently the television hadn't turned itself off, either, so the honey badger was still hopping merrily around on the screen. To his left was the door to the bathroom. Thankfully, that room was always kept clean. On their right hand side was the door to the kitchen. He didn't dare venture in there due to the stacks of plates he really did not want to have to wash up. And the only room that had its door hidden by a wall was his bedroom, which had a delightful floor that was barely visible through the amount of clothes he'd thrown across the floor in what was usually a rush to leave the house. "Okay, I think we should probably start with the kitchen... well, no. You should. I'll uh... sit back and watch you. You're the girl, after all. Come on, babe, off you go." He tapped her on the shoulder as if to egg her on. He actually looked at her for the first time since she'd entered. She did not look at all happy. In fact, she looked quite worried and a little confused. He wondered what was wrong. He opened his mouth to ask her, then remembered the text he'd sent. He'd said it was 'an emergency'. A slight exaggeration. She'd probably expected some rapist or murderer to be having a rampage in his small apartment. Leaf gave her an apologetic smile. "Yeah, I'm sorry. The emergency is that I hate cleaning?" He flashed her a grin in an attempt to soften her up a bit. "You know me, messy as fuck and too lazy for my own good. Come on, help an old friend out?"[/b] [/div][/td] [td][atrb=width,100] words ,

all at once it leaves you breathless
Once the door was opened, Janie braced herself for the worst. She assumed that it would be a thug or some ruffian that would yank the door open and attack her, but Janie stood as bravely as she cool and awaited whatever danger she knew she would face.
Naturally, there was a look of shock on her face when it was only Leaf who opened the door, looking very un-terrified and very safe. Quickly she was ushered in by him, the messy boy offering her the kitchen to start with, though she didn't really know what he meant by that. Her sky-blue eyes scanned the perimeter. Well, if there was no danger it certainly looked like someone had come in and destroyed his house. She ignored the honey-badger running around on his television and found his eyes, more unsure of what to say than anything. That was when he explained himself.
"Yeah, I'm sorry. The emergency is that I hate cleaning?" he offered up with a grin, allowing Janie to exhale thankfully. He continued, "You know me, messy as fuck and too lazy for my own good. Come on, help an old friend out?" happily, Janie grinned and enveloped him in a hug. She was pretty sure that it wasn't Leaf's style to be all affectionate but at the same time, she didn't care. She was happy that he was truly in no harm.
Releasing him, Janie finally spoke. "Oh, God! I was so scared that something bad happened. Okay. Good though. Just cleaning. And you know, I would love to help you any time." she stated with a grin, all of her previous anxieties melting away. And just as if nothing at all had happened, Janie was back to looking around his apartment.
This time, however, she saw it differently. The clutter was not induced by some maniac trying attack her friend, it was simply Leaf clutter that had gathered over a period of time due to Leaf's inherent aversion to tidying up. That was one thing that made Janie and Leaf completely different. Her apartment was cluttered with photos on walls and paintings but really, it was spotless and every amount of light she could get from windows she did. He was a darker and messier than her and she was lighter and neater than him. And yet, it simply worked well for them.
So, without hesitation Janie made her way to the kitchen, eyeing the various dirty dishes that were arrayed on the counter and in the sink. "Leaf, don't you ever do any cleaning of your own?" she asked with a slight giggle, wondering where to begin. |
