Dorm living was just not something that Nixie Almond was able to do, and that was all that there was to it. When it well and came down to it, she really didn't do well with other women. They tended to piss her off more than anything which in turn ended up making her want to punch them in their dumb faces, and that just caused problems. With the history that she'd had with dumb bitches it was a wonder that she had even be assigned a roommate. There was no way that she was going to live in dorms longer than she had to though, just no way in hell. Which proved to only be for her first year in college then she'd been free to move away into her own apartment.
As much as she'd hated dorm living Nixie had found that she missed having someone to talk to at all points at time. Sure it was really nice to have a kitchen, and her own separate room, and space, and all of that. But fuck if she didn't miss having someone around all the time. Nixie had gone through a couple roommates, them not working out for one reason or another. And the last one had just ended up being a disaster. It wasn't her fault that her roommate didn't tell her that he had a girlfriend. Really, it wasn't like she added that on the interview packet when she was meeting people who could move in with her. Needless to say that arrangement had ended with a lot of yelling and a prompt moving out. Which left Miss Almond once again in need of a roommate.
It wasn't necessarily that she needed a roommate to pay her bills. Nixie came from more money than she knew what to do with and her brother always made sure that she was more than well taken care of. It was more of a want. To have someone around. Someone that she could talk and hang out with. Someone that was just cool. That didn't drive her insane. That didn't have a girlfriend that he wasn't going to tell her about because obviously that didn't work out all too well the last time that she'd gone down that path. Was that really so much to ask for? Was it really this hard to find a roommate in a town that was composed of mostly college students? College students like her who loved to party from time to time, but was very focused on her studies. She did want to be a lawyer after all, which mean that she couldn't fuck off all of the time.
A slight sigh came from the girl as she wandered around her apartment straightening a few things while she waited for her next appointment to show up. From the e-mails that they'd sent back and forth he seemed like a good match. Not someone that she necessarily would've had at the top of her list of choices, but she was in a sort of space where she was thinking what the hell. Why not give this kid a shot. It wasn't like she was flowing in with offers at that moment, and he seemed like a nice enough guy. He was going to be able to pay his bills. Which was the first thing that she cared about. The second though, was being able to find a friend. Thus far there just wasn't that click when you knew that you were going to get along with someone.
Placing a cigarette between her lips she made her way into the kitchen to make sure that there was coffee freshly made. He wasn't late yet, but she was anxious to get this over with. And maybe, just maybe, her hopes were a bit high.

hjkljlk I'VE GOT ALL THIS RINGING IN MY EARS AND NONE ON MY FINGERS as long as austin could remember, he had been living in an off-campus apartment with longtime girlfriend, savanna perez. at least, after his first year at university he had been. there was something about those dorms that just didn't make austin feel comfortable. maybe it was the cramped spaces and smell of marijuana around every corner or maybe it was just the idea of having to share almost everything with another person, and when he was still in the dormitory system, three other persons, but living in a dorm just wasn't a goal of austin's. there was nothing attractive to him in a dorm, nothing that could possibly shift his views and make him think otherwise of them. now that he was in his last non-optional year at yale, he was able to live wherever he pleased. he could live in the next city over, hartford, or even two cities over if he liked- hell, he could even live in new york- and still be able to get education at the college of his choice. however, he chose the closest apartments to yale possible, which happened to be the norwalk apartments a couple blocks away from the school. since his second year as an official college student, he'd been living in the same apartment with his girlfriend. however, since their recent break up, he had been hopping from living locations for the past two months, back and forth from the hotel across the street and an apartment that a friend of his owned.
it had taken him a couple of weeks to finally get some motivation to do something about the situation that his devil ex-girlfriend had put him in, but finally, he had done it. after a lot of ad searching and as much background check a twenty two year old boy in college could do, which involved mainly facebook searches, he finally found a candidate that didn't look suspicious- and by suspicious, he meant that they didn't look like they could try to kill him in the night and steal all his information and money. the possible roommate was a girl, which he wasn't worried about, named nixie almond. honestly, the only curious thing about her, as far as he could tell, was her name. another plus about the ad was that the girl lived in a condo in one of the norwalk apartment's buildings. it was not only convenient for him, but he knew for a fact that the condos in the particular building were incredibly comfortable- semi-private, spacey, clean, and from what he heard about them, you couldn't smell weed everywhere you went, even if you were in the comfort of your own home. it was the farthest you could get from a college dorm, besides an actual house!
austin had contacted her as soon as he'd established that there was nothing to fear in possibly gaining a new home with this girl and they set up an 'appointment' as soon as possible. when the time came to check out the apartment and be assessed by his potential roommate, the nerves that would have usually been there weren't there. austin was a shy and awkward kid, so the fact that he was going through with possibly moving in with a stranger? it was rare, that was for sure. however, at this point, all the kid wanted was a place that he could call home. he was sick of borrowing space at friends' apartments and renting rooms at hotels when he didn't want to be bothersome. he arrived at the location just in time- not too late and not too early, either. he neared the door of the correct condo and with no nervousness, he rapped lightly on the door. he prayed to god that this woman didn't turn out to be crazy. nixie had been damn near done with her cigarette when the knock on her door came and she put out the cancer stick. not that she didn't want him to see that she smoked in the apartment, because, quite frankly it was her apartment. if she wanted to smoke in it she was damn well going to and that was all that there was to it. if he wanted to move in here then he would have to deal with her rules, and she wasn't about to change them for some roommate. especially when she didn't need a roommate to cover her rent or anything like that. it was more for the social aspect of it. just to have someone to come home to at the end of the day and bs with. someone that she could have fun with. nixie really was a social creature, which was why she'd wanted a roommate in the first place. because she was so used to living with someone. it had been her brothers at first, then her roommate in the dorms, and now, no one. maybe this kid.
after checking her reflection in the mirror she opened the door with a bright sort of smile on his face. well, he was cuter than she had been expecting, which caused her brows to raise to her hairline and the smile on her face turn more lopsided and flirty as she looked at him. really, she didn't know what she was supposed to be expecting. true enough that nixie almond was shallow enough to enjoy having someone around who was above average appearance, someone that she could use for arm candy if she really needed to, and it seemed that this boy was going to be more than alright to fill that space. because he was cute, and he was tall, and he had something about him that was just what she liked in her boys.
"hey, i'm nixie," she introduced her british accent more than apparent even given her many years living in the states. there were some things that would never leave her no matter how many years she didn't live back in her home land. she would always have an accent, and she was more than pleased with it, she would always do those little things that were so un-american, and really, most people found them to be adorable more than anything else. hell, there were a lot of men that had crossed paths with her that had found her accent to be sexy, and that was something she was more than alright with. "please come in," she offered before stepping to the side to allow him entrance into the home.
nixie closed the door behind him before making her way into the kitchen. if nothing else, she could be hospitable when she wanted to be. "can i get you anything to drink? coffee? water? tea?" the way that nixie saw it, it was a good idea to make someone feel as comfortable as possible when they were potential roommates.
